Job Description

Position Title: Assistant Athletic Director

Department: Athletics

Reports To: Principal/Athletic Director


SUMMARY:

Under general supervision assists in ensuring that the district’s vision, mission and goals are achieved by assisting the Athletic Director to maintain, organize and administer the overall program of interscholastic athletics, including intramural activities. To assist the athletic director to produce teams that will be competitive in their classification and conference; to primarily be responsible for the welfare and safety of all students who are participating in athletics; to plan, organize, coordinate and supervise programs in interscholastic athletics.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
.


Assists the Athletic Director in the following:

  • Supervision of the athletic coaches.
  • Maintaining a positive public relations program in the school and the community.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • Fostering good school-parent relations by maintaining communications relative to rules and regulations on athletics.
  • The coordination of transportation for all athletic contests.
  • Supervision of all contests.
  • To evaluate appropriate rules and regulations governing the code of conduct at athletic activities.
  • Coordination of support personnel for all athletic contests, including game management, ticket sales, security, athletic trainer and emergency personnel and apparatus.
  • The development of the interscholastic athletic schedules and officials schedules for all contests.
  • Representing the school at athletic conference meetings, interscholastic athletics and state meetings in the absence of the Athletic Director or the principal.
  • Selection and evaluation of the coaching staff.
  • Implementation of an annual budget.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

To be decided by Athletic Director and Building Principal.

Successful experience in assisting with managing or directing of athletic programs at a school district preferred. Successful supervisory experience required.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the Athletic Director in carrying out supervisory responsibilities of all coaches in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before administrators, staff, parents and students.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.


OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
