Job Description

The Associate Director, Student Activities/Advising will lead the coordination and delivery of a comprehensive strategy for supporting students in the hybrid pathway. Critical responsibilities for this position include advising on complex issues regarding student academic progress and wellness, providing information on financial aid and registration, delivering relevant services and resources designed to meet the basic needs and college success goals of our student body; coordinating early alert interventions, track and document challenges students are facing in their academic journey and collaborate with others to mitigate these challenges and extend the overall student experience to the students in the hybrid pathway.

Responsibilities
The Associate Director, Student Activities/Advising must:
  • Create and advocate for a welcoming environment for students.
  • Be familiar with student development and student retention theories.
  • Oversee Hybrid student affairs staff management including recruiting, performance evaluations, and retention of staff.
  • Employ excellent community skills, including active listening and responding skills.
  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity, teamwork, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Be dependable, have excellent organizational skills, and pay close attention to details.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development sessions.
  • In collaboration with department leadership, establish goals and objectives for student affairs within the Hybrid pathway.
  • Participate in the development and interpretation of department policies to ensure compliance with the University’s policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to diversity, equity, and social justice.
  • Develop and implement programs that motivate, encourage, mentor, and teach students how to navigate higher education.
  • Feel comfortable using technology.

Candidate should possess the ability to:
  • Advocate for all students with an emphasis on students who may be at risk of leaving college because their needs are not being met by the institution.
  • Work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Be proficient in common computer programs designed to improve work efficiencies and communication (e.g., Microsoft Office Programs [Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook], Adobe Acrobat, Qualtrics)
  • Participate in the development and operation of a student retention program that pays particular attention to the potential challenges that students from traditionally under-represented backgrounds may experience.
  • Case manage between 50 to 150 students providing care and support toward academic, social, and life skills development.
  • Maintain and update student files, including recording all interactions with students
  • Evaluate student success interventions and create reports and establish recommendations.
  • Prioritize assignments, plan, and carry projects to completion.
  • Learn the requirements of U of U services, major prerequisites, programs, and degree options, as well as college resources and processes (e.g., admissions, registration, financial aid, placement, academic advising and orientation, immersions).
  • Function independently with integrity under general supervision.
  • Organize, process, and disseminate large amounts of information accurately and when it is relevant to students.
  • Learn quickly, work well under pressure, and work ethically with confidential information.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating academic recovery programming and coaching for students.
  • Facilitate meetings with students and faculty
  • Work collaboratively with others in the DPT program team, as well as our campus partners.
  • Assess the needs of students and create interventions or services to meet these needs.
  • Provide excellent customer service and one-on-one consultations with students.
  • Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of diverse individuals.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.
