Job Description
The University of Iowa, College of Law is seeking The HELI’s Associate Director, who will work closely with the Faculty Director and the Program Director. This is a 75% regular benefitted Professional and Scientific appointment intended to assist with programming, and the likelihood of a teaching role in an adjunct faculty status, reflecting an approximately 25% additional appointment paid with compensation based on course load. The adjunct appointment is contingent on an annual approval process. Key responsibilities of the Associate Director are listed below. This position has funding for 8 years with possibility of continuation if additional funding can be identified. Key Areas Of Responsibilities And Specific Job Tasks


Operational and Financial Management


  • Working with the HELI Program Director to organize and implement HELI programs, including workshops, conferences and webinars;
  • Teaching one to two courses per academic year in the field of environmental, energy, and natural resources law (courses to be determined in consultation with the HELI Faculty Director and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs)
  • Other Initiative efforts, as needed 25% time Adjunct Instructor


Strategic Planning


  • Working with the HELI Faculty Director and Program Director to identify priorities for HELI-supported research, outreach, and programming.
  • Implementing joint initiatives with other University of Iowa departments and schools.


Communication and Outreach


  • Working with the Program Director on the HELI website and social media presence.
  • Supporting and growing the HELI’s campus and community networks.
  • Engaging in environmental law research and activities relevant to Iowa and the Midwest region. These responsibilities include writing policy papers, op-eds and other publications and supervising the work of HELI research assistants and fellows.


Compliance


  • Overseeing the HELI’s budget with various initiatives.


Quality Improvement


  • Direct program activities so University of Iowa policies, procedures, practices and programs are in compliance with federal, state and local legal/regulatory standards.


Leadership/Supervision


  • Hiring and working with student research assistants;
  • Supervising the annual student environmental moot court team.

Position Qualifications


Education required:


  • A JD, LLM, or SJD


Experience Required


  • Excellent research and writing skills;
  • Ability to effectively interact with diverse populations
  • Highly organized and able to establish priorities and meet deadlines
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the field of environmental, energy, or natural resources law;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills, including evidence of strong prioritization skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.


Desirable Qualifications


  • Experience in supervising
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Iowa bar membership or ability to waive in
