Mitchell College is seeking an experienced Associate Director of Admissions reporting to the Executive Director of Admissions and who is responsible for the recruitment of new students to all programs with a strong focus on Thames at Mitchell College, The SAILS (Self-Advocacy and Interpersonal Life-skills Support) at Mitchell Program, and the Bentsen Learning Center.


Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to outreach to prospective students through various off-campus recruitment events and may require travel for special admissions events.


The position requires 2-3 years’ experience working in an admissions office and experience reviewing IEPs, high school transcripts and psychoeducational/neuropsychological assessments.


Required Education And Experience


  • Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Preferred 4-6 years’ experience in education, disability services, admissions or higher education.
  • Ability to make presentations in public such as at campus open houses, high school events, regional events and receptions, etc.
  • Travel within the assigned territory and to the Mitchell College campus is required.
  • Experience using mobile technology and client relationship databases.
  • Ability to work independently is a must, as well as being a part of a dynamic team.
  • Demonstrated experience in special education process, disability rights in college, and/or psychoeducational evaluations .
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Education, Special Education, Psychology or related field
  • Excellent customer service skills, including strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.


Key Skills / Knowledge


  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate written records using data bases, notes, files, automated calendars and we enabled tools so that others can readily interpret and understand the status of a prospective or current student at any given time.
  • Standard computer skills (like Word, Excel, etc…); preferred use of higher education CRM software.
  • Excellent presentation and communications skills, both written and verbal.
