Job Description

Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte supports the holistic well-being and academic, personal, and interpersonal development of UNC Charlotte students by providing short-term individual and group counseling, psychological assessment, consultation for faculty, staff, parents, and students, and educational programs to the campus community.

Primary Purpose of Position
Under the supervision of the Director of CAPS, this position is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of the clinical services function of CAPS, including individual and group counseling, clinical workshops, crisis services, and access services, and serves on the CAPS leadership team. This positions serves as the chair of the Clinical Services Committee and provides administrative supervision to the Assistant Director for Groups and Workshops and additional designated permanent staff. Performs administrative duties as assigned. This position provides direct clinical services, consultation and outreach programming and community engagement initiatives as is consistent with other professional staff members.

Summary of Position Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Director of CAPS, this position is the primary administrator responsible for the oversight and leadership of the center’s clinical system including individual and group counseling, clinical workshops, crisis services, and access services. This position also provides direct clinical services as is consistent with other staff clinicians as well as outreach services, supervision, research and evaluation, and service to the University community.
Duties specific to role as Associate Director of Clinical Services:
  • Serves as the primary consultant to CAPS staff on clinical issues presented by students;
  • Evaluates outcome of and client satisfaction with clinical services;
  • Interprets, supports, and enforces agency procedures, consistent with the legal and ethical guidelines for provision of counseling and psychological services;
  • Monitors CAPS compliance with ethical and professional standards in clinical services delivery;
  • Responds to questions about CAPS clinical services from students, family members, and campus partners
  • Serves as primary liaison to after-hours service provider
  • Serves as the chair of the CAPS Clinical Services Committee;
  • Serves as primary contact for electronic medical records system
  • Refines clinical services delivery models to meet student needs;
  • Develops and implements strategic goals for the delivery of clinical services by CAPS;
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures related to clinical service delivery at CAPS;

Minimum Education/Experience
  • Completion of all necessary hours for licensure in respective field and licensed eligible in respective field in the state of NC.
  • Terminal degree in counseling or clinical psychology, social work, counseling, or related field.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Experience with administering or assisting with administration of clinical service systems.
  • At least four years of Counseling Center experience, with evidence of increasing amounts of administrative and supervisory responsibility.


Necessary Certifications/Licenses
Must achieve licensure in respective field in the State of North Carolina within six months of hire and maintain this licensure.
