Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Health, Wellness, and Performance will lead a comprehensive high-performance team, to include sports medicine, applied health and performance science, performance nutrition, strength and conditioning, and mental wellness, with the goal of developing and supporting innovative strategies that increase the efficiencies and effectiveness of the high-performance group and the ability to optimize student-athlete health, wellness, and performance of Loyola University Chicago’s varsity athletics teams and its student-athletes. The Associate AD will be required to enhance the integrative synergies among the high-performance groups, practitioners, Loyola Medicine, Rush Select Therapy, and University Wellness Center as well as industry partners to leverage the multidisciplinary resources of the University, and the Chicago area to maximize creative resourcing opportunities and ensure the implementation of best practices. The Associate AD will be required to lead, inspire, and hold accountable the high-performance directors of the units mentioned above, and serve as the conduit to athletics leadership with the focus on optimizing communication, clearly defining and articulating strategies that address the needs of the high-performance areas, and fostering key relationships and partnership that support efforts to enhance student-athlete health, wellness, and performance.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop effective and trusting partnerships with Athletics staff to drive better coordination in order to optimally address student-athletes’ needs.
  • Oversee and coordinate the Loyola Athletics Drug Testing Program, along with coordination with mental health counselors, the sports medicine team and campus resources for follow-up interventions.
  • Monitor, inspect, and ensure medical equipment is maintained to protect the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, and athletic department members.
  • Work in coordination with the leadership teams within Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Nutrition, and Sport Psychology staffs to identify and attend quality continuing education programing and professional development opportunities to remain abreast of techniques, ideas, and tools to improve programming and staff development.
  • Provide consistent communication with all necessary staff regarding health and sports performance issues.
  • Coordinate with the Integrated Health and Sports Performance staff with the development of rehabilitation and treatment care plans/programs for specific injuries and illnesses for short-term and long-term care, making post-injury assessments, facilitating and monitoring injured athlete return to conditioning programming, return to competition and discharge strategies, and sustainability programming.
  • Assist in providing overview of latest performance developments and technologies to staff to ensure Loyola Athletics stays engaged, progressive and a leader in performance service delivery.
  • Research and develop new and evolving training and injury prevention policies, techniques, technologies and protocols.
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, A10, and Institution rules that relate to this position.
  • Assist with coordination of medical providers and serve as the administrative liaison with team physicians and other medical professionals.
  • Work to identify, foster, and build relationships with campus entities, departments, and staffs to develop resources for student-athletes, coaches, and teams that may enhance programming, support, and health or performance-related resources
  • Supervise athletic training staff, strength and conditioning staff and sports dietitian as well as the Athletics liaison to University Wellness Center /Athletic Mental Health Counselors.
  • Supervise and assist with coordination of care for the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries and illness for student-athletes.
  • Supervise and assist with maintaining appropriate Occupational and Safety Health Administration guidelines, maintaining a clean, healthy and safe workplace.
  • Ensure comprehensive strength and conditioning, health, and nutrition programs for student-athletes.
  • Assist with oversight of prompt, effective, emergency care for serious injuries and ensure coordinated referral to emergency medical systems or personnel.
  • Serves as the NCAA Health Administrator designation. Reviews, evaluates, and develops best practice policies and procedures for the Sports Medicine department and integrated health and Sports Performance Unit.
  • Develop, supervise and administer the annual budget for the sports medicine department and help provide strategic planning in relation to all supervisory area budgets.
  • Supervise the maintenance, organization and confidential record keeping of all medical records, medical supplies, and physical property according to department protocol.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
A Bachelor’s degree is required; A minimum of one to three years of experience working with collegiate or professional athletic teams is required with NCAA Division I level experience.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience working in a high-performance environment
  • Must have experience leading an integrated high-performance program
  • Experience working with faculty, athletics staff, practitioners, and student-athletes
  • Experience developing and implementing innovative health, wellness, and performance ideas and putting them into practice.
  • Master’s Degree preferred or applicable experience in Sports Administration, Educational Leadership, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Sports Medicine or other related academic disciplines
  • Must be familiar with cutting edge strategies for health, wellness, and performance optimization
