JOB SUMMARY

The Mental Health Counselor provides patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and assists in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

• Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Hospital and demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the hospital.

Other Functions

PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Variable: adolescent, young adult, adult, older adult and geriatric needs are all assessed.

• Knowledge of treatment for substance is also helpful

QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor of Science in Psychology or a related field.

• Internship or previous experience in dealing with psychiatric patients.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

• Current CPR certification with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

• Participate in unit based committees and meetings in formulating unit goals.

• Assists in interviewing applicants.

Nursing, Respiratory, Radiology, Laboratory, Central Transport, Pastoral Care, Admitting, Food Services, Volunteers, Human Resources, Information Systems, Salespersons

ENVIRONMENT

• Standing, walking, bending, lifting patients, pushing

• Restraining of aggressive patients

• Exposure to communicable disease

• Risk of injury by violent patients

• Computer entry

• Potential exposure to airborne diseases is the same as for any individual working in a hospital environment that is dependent on a ceiling ventilation system for in-flow and out-flow of air.
