Job Description
TITLE: Assistant PrincipalSUMMARY: Assists the building principal in providing strategic leadership and direction in the developmentand successful delivery of curriculum and instruction, as well as, leadership activities ensuringcompliance with Federal and State mandates and district standards. Also assists with providingstrategic direction and supervising strategic implementation of standards, continuousimprovement, and instructional practices that optimize student growth and achievement towardcollege and career readiness.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Job Duties: ? Under the direction of the building principal, assists with the following duties: o Leading the day-to-day activities of the building, including, but not limited to, hiring, training,counseling, evaluation staff performance, and when necessary, disciplining staff and students.o Managing the delivery of the districts school improvement activities to enable students tomeet and/or exceed state and local standards and to reduce the achievement gap betweenidentified student populations and groups.o Assuring effective implementation of the district teacher evaluation system (OTES) bysystematically completing evaluations, including substantive feedback which results inmeasurable improvements in instruction and assessment.o Participating in the preparation and implementation of the districts Continuous ImprovementPlan, School Improvement Plan, Building Leadership Team (BLT), and Teacher BasedTeams (TBTs) reviewing measurable goals by monitoring progress via use of student data.o Fostering a collaborative and supportive culture of teachers assisting each other to improveinstruction, learning, and student achievement.o Providing leadership, direction, and oversight in the successful development, delivery, andcoordination of the districts curriculum and instruction, targeting student, college, andcareer-readiness and effective student performance against district, state, and nationalbenchmarks for performance.o Supporting the activities of building leaders as they develop strategic programs for studenttransitions between middle school and high school.o Working in coordination with the Director of Special Education to ensure students IEPs andspecial education services are provided in the least restrictive educational environment.o Participating in parent conferences and student planning meetings as needed or required.o Developing and executing a master schedule which insures instruction of rigorous courses,appropriate staffing, and student services, as well as, other activities.o Coordinating and participating in interactions with other principals across grade levels toensure vertical alignment of curriculum and to optimize student learning and performance, aswell as, building and district effectiveness. o Supervising student testing programs and analyzing test results, and providing leadership forinstructional modifications and interventions that enhance student learning and improve testperformance.o Meeting with district administrators and others to discuss curricular alignment, assisting inthe interpretation and analysis of student and program data and the resulting changes ininstructional practices needed.o Participating, coordinating, and evaluating the planning and implementation of job-embeddedstaff professional development directly linked to the district and schools continuousimprovement initiatives.o Providing resources to support staff to think systematically about the change process inresponse to the needs of the school, and guiding staff in the implementation of research-basedinstructional practices.o Participating with other district administrators in long-range strategic academic planning anddecision-making; analyzing trends in data to create projections needed for decision-making.o Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, Board policy, and district standards;initiating corrective action as necessary.o Serving as a member of the administrative team that creates and executes the districts vision,mission, and strategic plan.o Utilizing technology and other resources, as appropriate, to maximize communication withparents and community members regarding student learning and performance.o Maintaining communication with parents, other departments, and external parties in thecommunity and working cooperatively to resolve problems and exchange information,ensuring the respectful behavior of staff members towards students, parents, and members ofthe community.o Maintaining current knowledge of best practices, trends, and new developments ineducational programs in student testing, assessment, research, and evaluation, makingrecommendations for changes to methods and processes as necessary.o Providing assistance for the planning, development, and implementation of the high schoolsbudget.o Ensuring that facilities are operated effectively and efficiently and that applicable health andsafety standards are met.o Providing for adequate inventories of property and for the security and accounting of that property.o Anticipating problems and proposing solutions to problems.o Performing other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate for this position will have the capability and capacity to perform allassigned responsibilities satisfactorily.

Bachelors or masters degree in Education, Public Administration, or relevant discipline.? Three (3) or more years of related teaching and administrative experience, including supervisoryresponsibilities and experience commensurate with the responsibilities described.?
Valid Ohio Department of Education Administrator certificate or license.? Demonstrated knowledge of district policies, accreditation, and regulatory standards related toassigned functions, including strong knowledge of applicable state and federal laws.? Demonstrated supervisory skills to effectively manage the daily operations and administration ofassigned function(s).? Strong communication skills (written and verbal) essential to effectively relate and productivelywork with all levels of district staff, students, parents, and the general public.?
Demonstrated ability to solve problems in a tactful, courteous, and respectful manner.? Demonstrated technological skills required to maintain departmental records, documents, andreports.? Demonstrated computer skills to effectively create and/or maintain records and reports within thescope of the responsibilities described.?
