Job Description

Position Summary

As a member of the Golf Course Maintenance team, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will assist with coordinating daily operations of the turf grass management staff. This includes meeting or exceeding daily expectations of guests, ownership and management. As an Assistant Superintendent you must lead by example by being punctual, professional and consistent. This is a salaried position. This position requires fluid knowledge of Golf Course Maintenance and golf course operations and will be looked on to train associates on these matters. The Assistant Superintendent has the authority to discipline associates.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Superintendent to communicate the goals and objectives of Seagate to existing associates and new associates
  • Able to calibrate all types of spreaders and sprayers. It is necessary to provide instruction to individuals using the spreaders and sprayers
  • Must be proactive in developing short and long range plans for the department to facilitate the consistent delivery of an exceptional product to members and ownership
  • Accept the responsibilities of personal decisions and actions. He/she will also assume responsibilities of the Superintendent in the Superintendent’s absence
  • Advises the Golf Course Superintendent on all work deficiencies and discusses proper action
  • Work with the Superintendent and Director of Agronomy to communicate daily, weekly, and monthly tasks
  • Interview, hire, and coach staff members as needed
  • Create a fun and effective work environment. He/she will inspire, motivate, and lead by example
  • Responsible for the supervision and follow-up of all crew assignments
  • Monitor moisture on greens, tees, fairways, rough, and landscape including, but not limited to, the clubhouse and Tennis grounds
  • Communicate effectively with the direct staff in regards to daily operations
  • Mentor and help develop staff in all areas. This includes equipment operations, irrigation maintenance and operation, spraying techniques and safety orientation and training
  • Coordinate daily crew assignments

Knowledge/Skills

  • Active member of GCSAA
  • Ability to read budgets and interpret numbers
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as calibration rates, proportions, percentages and volume
  • Bachelors’ degree, college or university program certificate, or 2-4 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of years and experience
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or needs of staff members and guests
  • Certified Pesticide Applicator for the state of Florida within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to recognize problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions


Work Environment

  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Must be able to consistently lift 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision required by this job includes; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and vibration
