Responsibilities


Reporting to the Director of Residential Experience, the Assistant Director of Residential Experience assists inbuilding a positive, healthy and inclusive community within 21 residence halls serving over 1,500 residents. TheAssistant Director is responsible for the leadership and management of campus Living Learning Communities(LLCs), programming support for the Residence Hall Association, and oversight of the department’s GraduateAssistant program. The Assistant Director, in conjunction with the Director, provides leadership of thedepartment’s professional and student staffing. Collaborating with academic and co-curricular programs, theposition is responsible for the development and successful retention of LLC programs, including peer to peermentorship initiatives across class years. The Assistant Director provides direct support over the residentialadvisor program. This is a live-in position and the Assistant Director will provide support to the Director ofResidential Experience in the implementation of a vision that focuses on intentionally and successfullytransitioning and progressing students of all class levels throughout their residential experience. This positionserves as a primary on-call staff member for the College.The Office of Residential Experience creates an on-campus home for students by developing a safe, engaging,and inclusive environment that supports residential student learning and emphasizes personal and socialresponsibility.   • Other Duties as Assigned Serves in absence of Director of ResidentialExperience. Serve as instructor for EDUC-085 leadership course. Participate inboth division and College committees as assigned. Work in a highly collaborative,fast-paced, and culturally diverse campus environment and develop effectiverelationships within the division of Student Life and with other areas of theCollege.This position description identifies the key responsibilities and expectations forperformance. It cannot encompass all specific job tasks that an employee maybe required to perform. Employees are required to follow any other job-relatedinstructions and perform job-related duties as may be reasonably assigned bytheir supervisor. Includes night and weekend responsibilities.
  • LIVING LEARNING COMMUNITIES: Promotes and coordinates implementationof Living Learning Communities (LLCs) within the residence halls. Works withcampus collaborators and advisors to develop and implement a thriving LLCprogram. Provides oversight for departmental partnership, including supervision,evaluation, and assessment of LLC programs. Develops and maintains marketingand promotional materials and works with appropriate campus departments toincrease presence and effectiveness of LLC programs. Oversees and distributesbudgets associated with the LLC program.Promotes and coordinates program assessment, policy development, andevaluation for all managed areas. Coordinates all programming expectationswithin a frame of residential education for resident advisors (includeseducational, social, academic success, mental health and alcohol programming).Assists the Director with administration and management of resident directorand resident mentor programmatic funds. Works with the area coordinators toaid in developing annual goals and objectives, learning outcomes, and provideregular updates to the Director. Assist with review and adjustments to residentialpolicies and procedures, as noted in Student Handbook. Manage departmentwebsite.
  • DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS: In conjunction with the Director, assists withoversight of student staff, Graduate Assistants and operational collaboratorsthrough recruitment, training and professional development. Assists the Directorwith website management and internal processes for departmental success.Works with the Director on evaluation and assessment needs.
  • EMERGENCY RESPONSE: Assist the Director of Residential Experience with theimplementation and promotion of emergency protocols and response for theresidential community. Assists with providing training and communication toresidential staff regarding preparations and responses to critical incidents andcampus emergencies. Collaborates closely with Campus Housing, Public Safetyand Facilities on work orders, facilities renovations, and maintenance work withindesignated residential areas.
  • COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING: Provides direct oversight of thedepartment’s marketing and social media presence on various platforms,including the updating of the College’s website. Assists the Director with thedevelopment of a communication and content creation timeline that assists inthe education of students’ residential experience and promotes thedepartment’s programmatic initiatives. Partners with campus departments topromote and market programs at new student events, recruitment events, andretention events.
  • RESIDENCE HALL ASSOCIATION: Directly advises the Residence Hall Association(RHA), a student-led programming group that provides unique engagement andprogramming opportunities to residential students. Oversees the recruitment,training and professional development of RHA members. Collaborates withcampus departments on implementation of residential programming aimed atfurthering success and retention of residential students. Utilizes assessmentmethods to adjust programmatic efforts to meet current needs of students.Promotes and coordinates program assessment, policy development, andevaluation for all managed areas. Coordinates all programming expectationswithin a frame of residential education for resident advisors (includeseducational, social, academic success, mental health and alcohol programming).
  • RESIDENTIAL STUDENT SUPPORT: Provide crisis intervention and serves as acase manager for students in distress or conflict. Trains residential staff inmediating roommate concerns and conflicts. Assist in management of complexstudent issues, including incidents impacting the experience of residents. Servesas a resource for families of students engaged in residential concerns, complying with all laws and regulations. Participate and lead training across departmentson care and support for students in distress. Serve as primary On-Call staff forthe College. Serves as an Administrative Hearing Officer, Advisor, DisciplinaryHearing Board member, and Appeals Board member as cases are assigned and asneeded.

Demonstrated experience with andcommitment to the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion. Experience dealing with confidential issues.


Excellent administrative, interpersonal, problem-solving, listening, verbal and written communication skills.Understanding of information technology as applied to a residential system. Demonstrated knowledge of highereducation student development theory, risk management and legal issues. Ability to relate to students, parents,guests, community members, faculty, and staff in a courteous and professional manner. Demonstratedexcellence in Microsoft Office operating systems including internet and email usage. Experience with DatatelColleague, residential life/housing/student conduct software with preferred and demonstrated ability to learn newsoftware applications. Must be able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time in a fast-paced work environment.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of FERPA, Title IX, ADA, and other local, state and federal statutesthat affect the Office of Residential Experience and the Dean of Students area. Fluency in multiple languages aplus.
