The purpose of this position is to plan, direct, manage, and oversee marketing, recruiting, and admissions, student services, and program operations of the Foster Day, Evening, and Global MBA Programs including full responsibility for annual program budgets over $10 million. Each program is of strategic importance to the Foster School. The Day MBA Program is the most well-known within the Foster MBA portfolio as well as the program whose ranking serves as the numeraire for the Foster School as a whole. The Evening MBA Program is both highly-ranked nationally and, historically, the single largest revenue program within the Foster School. The Global MBA Program brings positive relationship value with leading partner schools globally.

The Assistant Dean is responsible for setting a positive tone for the staff and student community consistent with the Foster purpose statement, developing and outlining program goals, designing strategies that accelerate the development of students as future leaders, overseeing execution of co-currical development experiences along with faculty and staff colleagues, informing and executing rankings strategy, and managing program operations on a day-to-day basis. The Assistant Dean is responsible for driving leadership and quality assurance for all services developed for current and future students, advising current and prospective students, handling internal and external communications and marketing, overseeing and managing program-appropriate events, supervising staff, developing and managing the budget, and working closely with the Associate Dean for Master’s Programs, teaching faculty, advisory committees, marketing communications colleagues, and other Foster graduate program directors to ensure large, well-qualified, and collectively diverse Day and Evening MBA cohorts, delivery of a transformative development experience, and strong professional development outcomes for graduates. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Master’s Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic and Financial Management - 40%

  • Plan and oversee the strategic direction of the Day & Evening MBA Programs and in alignment with the purpose and values of the Foster School of Business and as part of a portfolio of MBA programs.

  • Establish multi-year strategic and tactical plans to maintain and expand program excellence, enhance the student experience, and ensure program relevancy in the marketplace for MBA talent.

  • Plan, direct, manage, and oversee total operations of the Day, Evening, and Global MBA Programs including full responsibility for annual program budgets over $10 million.

  • Develop, oversee, and present annual budget to the Foster Budget Committee.

  • Prepare financial reports for the program quarterly advisory meetings and/or as needed.

  • Manage the financial resources of the programs including budgets and funds from federal, state, private, and foundation sources to ensure ethical and fiduciary practices.

  • Provide clear and effective leadership to achieve strategic goals.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee guidelines and policies relating to the Day, Evening, and Global MBA Programs in cooperation with the Foster School Master’s Programs Committee and Associate Dean of Master’s Programs.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee internal communications and procedures for recruiting and admissions that align with external marketing messages.

  • Build and strengthen strategic relationships with alumni and the business community.

  • Develop and oversee strategic direction of the MBA Student Consulting Program.

  • Co-Plan with the Director of MBA Career Management professional development models and programming to prepare Day and Evening MBA candidates for a competitive employment market locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.


  • Academic Program Operations and Assessment of and Feedback on Curriculum Delivery - 35%

  • Conduct ongoing holistic evaluation of program performance including student outcomes, curriculum performance, budget, market demand, and external partnerships.

  • Partner with internal and cross-functional teams, particularly those in Marketing Communications and within other Foster work-compatible degree offerings, to achieve key performance indicators for student outcomes and enrollment growth.

  • Recommend and implement new initiatives and services.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee guidelines and polices relating to the program.

  • Oversee and monitor student satisfaction as well as progress toward student satisfaction goals; report to and recommend action to the Associate Dean of Master’s Programs in response to feedback received.

  • Develop and implement effective operating policies, procedures, and systems for the Day, Evening, and Global MBA organization inclusive of admissions, program ooperations, student affairs, and alumni connctions.

  • Work with the Associate Dean of Master’s Programs to ensure curricular excellence, a valued and valuable student learning experience, and a positive and cohesive teaching environment for faculty. Act as a keyAct as a key administrative representative of the Day, Evening, and Global MBA Programs to Foster School faculty.

  • Maintain and identify issues that require further clarification and/or any need to revise/edit descriptions posted on Day, Evening, and Global MBA Program websites; create, update, and manage information in the corresponding sections of the Slate application tool.

  • Consult the Associate Dean of Master’s Programs and—as appropriate—Foster Master’s Programs Committee regarding issues where there's no clear direction or policy guidelines.

  • Advise and assist Day, Evening, and Global MBA students as needed.

  • Provide initial counselling for academic matters and refer students to faculty, staff, the Associate Dean for Master’s Programs, or other Foster and UW administration on an as-needed basis


  • Supervision - 25%

  • Lead, coach, develop, mentor, and supervise team of four full time individuals and their teams as well as hourly and student employees in a manner consistent with Foster’s purpose and values.

  • Organize professional development plans for full time staff to achieve goals and objectives of program as well as staff personal development.

  • Coach students workers or temporary staff to achieve goals and objectives.

  • Hire staff, evaluate job performance, and take corrective action if performance is not acceptable


  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Master's Degree in Business, Education, Public Administration, or a related field plus a minimum 8-years leadership experience in a complex academic setting, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in working with different constituencies.

  • Proficiency with financial and budgetary practices in an academic setting.

  • Demonstrated success in staff supervision, staff development, and strategic management.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse, adult learner student populations and a commitment to an inclusive, collaborative work environment.

  • Exemplary time-management and organizational skills and ability to work and thrive in a fast paced, energetic, highly creative, sometimes ambiguous, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Superior administrative and organizational skills including planning and problem solving.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.


  • DESIRED:

  • Professional experience working in marketing/recruiting/admissions, academic affairs, or career management at a highly-ranked (top 25) school in the US full-time MBA program marketplace.

  • Work experience handling all aspects of both tuition-based (“state supported”) and fee-based (“self-sustaining”) Masters programs.


  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Required to be available some evenings and Saturdays when class meetings, program events, and recruiting events are held.
