Job Title: Assistant Administrator – Lincoln School
Kent ISD Center Based Programs
215 day position
2023-24 School Year
This position is responsible for assisting in providing educational leadership and performs the duties necessary for the successful delivery of Special Education and related services in a Center Program setting. Under the direction of the Center Program Administrator, the Assistant Administrator serves as an instructional leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of school activities and programs, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, student conduct, and attendance. The position of Assistant Administrator is responsible for attendance, discipline, safety, and related student personnel services.
Job Qualifications:
- State of Michigan School Administrator Certificate
- Master’s degree from an accredited college/university with particular emphasis on administration, management, curriculum and special education with preference given to individuals with previous administrative experience.
- Knowledge and experience working with students with cognitive impairments and/or autism is preferred.
- Must possess exceptional organizational and supervisory skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with superiors, peers, subordinates, local/state/national education representatives, and regulatory/funding agencies, constituent districts and the public-at large.
- Knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal funding requirements.
- Knowledge of effective project management and possess strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of special education laws, rules, regulations and compliance responsibilities.
- Ability to work constructively with parents, students, staff, and community agencies.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification.
- Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities. Demonstrates the ability to examine the impact of education inequities in student achievement outcomes as it aligns with race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership and supervision in the management Center Program schools for students with disabilities.
- Serve as a member of the school’s School Improvement and PBIS team.
- Assists in establishing procedures for placement, evaluation, assignment, and re-evaluation of students with disabilities as determined by regulations and in collaboration with local district supervisors/directors.
- Recruits, hires, trains, mentors, coaches, and evaluates program staff.
- Evaluates professional, classified and contracted personnel in a timely manner.
- Provides staff development opportunities that incorporate the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes, and input from the teachers.
- Provides support to staff to ensure compliance on according to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).
- Works with school teams in supporting behavior through FBA’s and PBSP’s.
- Assists in working with staff, students, parents, local educational agencies, public school academies, and community agencies to build a shared vision of learning for all students.
- Assists in working with staff, students, families, and community agencies to link school priorities and strategies into the school improvement plan to achieve school and district goals.
- Assists the principal in the responsibility for protecting health and welfare of students.
- Supervises and is responsible for the maintenance and management of incident reports.
- Establishes regular systems of two-way communication with parents and community, while involving parents in their child’s education.
- Interacts with various county and state agencies that serve special education to optimize services for the students.
- Learns and uses emerging technologies to increase productivity, develop leadership, and expand staff use of technology.
- Ensures all segments of the community are included, involved, respected, and valued.
- 17. Ensures compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE), Kent ISD Board of Education and Organizational Policies, and other applicable rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as directed and under the guidance of the Administrator/Principal.
