Archives Technician Jobs

LAC Federal is seeking Archives Technicians to support a major Federal Cultural Institution in downtown Washington, D.C. The Technicians will work under the direction of an Archivist to inventory, organize, rehouse, and describe historical music collections. The Technician will assist the Archivist by performing data entry to create archival finding aids and will create inventory lists. The Technician will rehouse materials into archival quality materials and create labels for boxes, folders, and other housings. This is a full time, benefited position.
Requirements
Mandatory Requirements

• Ability to build and maintain relationships and communicate effectively with Library staff.
• Conducting primary and secondary research necessary to complete and/or verify historical and biographical materials pertaining to the collections
• Inventorying and processing archival materials, especially audiovisual materials such as prints and photographs
• Rehousing and stabilizing archival materials using basic preservation strategies including the use of mylar sleeves
• Creating archival metadata for boxes, items, series, and collections
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
• Knowledge of visual materials in library collections.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and techniques of archival work, including analysis, organization, and description of archival material.
• Minimum of 6 months experience working in a library, archives, or museum performing the following tasks:
• Creating box, folder, and item-level inventories of materials using Excel to create DACS-compliant finding aids
• Ability to work in a dusty and cool environment with historical materials that may be dirty.
• Ability to identify preservation concerns and perform basic preservation duties, such as rehousing and photocopying, as needed.
