Archaeology Technician - Seasonal (Arkansas) Duties & Responsibilities The archaeological technician assist cultural resource management projects and short-term field surveys and/or monitoring events. Job duties require the collection and recordation of field data for archaeology surveys during intensive shovel testing at 30-meter intervals. Works independently, as well as with a team of other resource specialists to complete project work. Assists in the preparation and writing of reports while applying scientific knowledge of intermountain region cultural resources to interpret and present results of field and desktop studies. Maintains current and accurate records and documentation of work performed. Keeps the Project Manager informed of progress and documentation of field activities. Completes daily progress reports, photo logs, and daily coordination calls as needed. Completes and organizes field data sheets for all field work completed. Job duties entail using a compass, global positioning system devices and digital cameras as well as the ability to maintain equipment. Training will be provided for all survey efforts and job-related activities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in cultural resources, archaeology, anthropology, art history or other similar programs. At least one year of relevant experience. Preferred knowledge of Mississippian and Ozark cultural settings. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when faced with unexpected circumstances. Ability to work efficiently and safely. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Working Conditions Willingness to travel when needed to isolated field sites. Some overnight camping may be required. Ability to work independently in remote field settings in a variety of weather conditions, including inclement weather. Ability to walk/hike for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours/day) over varied and rugged terrain carrying shovels, screens, tarps, and personal equipment. Ability to shovel test 30-centimeter x 30-80 centimeter below surface (cmbs) units at 30-meter intervals across rugged terrain. Ability to satisfactorily pass pre-employment and post-employment drug and alcohol tests.
