Job Description
Summary


Under supervision, learns and performselectrical line construction,maintenanceand repair.


Essential Functions


  • Installs service. Connects, disconnects and reconnects as assigned;
  • Trims trees and cuts brush on right of way as assigned;
  • Assists with streetlight installation and maintenance;
  • Assists in restoring overhead and underground outages;
  • Becomes familiar with the electric distribution system feeds and circuits;
  • Completes outage reports; material tickets; connects, disconnects, or reconnects orders as required;
  • Assists in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground systems from either pole or aerial lift device;
  • Responsible for following all safety policies and procedures;
  • Assists in performing line patrol;
  • Digs poles and anchor holes, frames and sets poles and anchors, installs guy wires, sags, and ties in conductors;
  • Other duties as required.
  • Assists with the installation of transformers, switches, reclosers, capacitors, meters and other electrical apparatus;
  • Operates equipment as needed;
  • Repairs and replaces service drops as required;
  • Reads, changes, installs and seals meters as assigned;
  • Perform on call duty as required;
  • Requires to oversee the safe work practices of employees of lower classification assigned to work with this position;


Qualifications


Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of a high school diploma with an additional one year of experience as a helper on a power line construction and maintenance crew or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:


Physical Exam Required


Valid Current Class A Commercial Driver's License


Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of one line diagrams is desirable;
  • Basic courses in lineman school and electricity is desirable;
  • A minimum of six months experience in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution line is desirable.


Applicants seeking credit for previous experience must submit the request and supply supporting documentation at the time of application.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of


  • Precautions to be taken in working with high voltage lines.
  • Electrical Codes;


Ability to


  • Ability to service electrical power lines.


Physical Requirements


  • Frequently climb ladders, stairs, poles, or inclined surfaces;
  • Frequently pull wires towards oneself;
  • Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height;
  • Rotate trunk to the right or left from a sitting or standing position;
  • Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift;
  • Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds;
  • Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to drive a vehicle and operate a bucket truck.
  • Continuously lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 pounds;
