CSUN’s Tseng College provides advanced professional education to undergraduate, graduate, international and midcareer students. Major Duties


Under general supervision, the Applications and Admissions Specialist oversees the administrative processing of credit and non-credit applications, including transcript entry and validation - and application technical support, and provides customer service regarding registration for Tseng College programs. The incumbent acts as the first point of contact for inquiries via phone, email and walk-ins, and performs independent problem resolution utilizing the Student Financials, Student Records, and Campus Community modules of SOLAR.


  • Contributes to the implementation and interpretation of Tseng College policies, procedures, and practices, and Serves as the Schedule of Class coordinator and representative for the Tseng College.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Works closely with the Tseng College Graduate and Professional Education (GPE) managers and coordinators and the Information Systems and Services (ISS) Unit staff to ensure that the specific application/registration needs of that area are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Runs daily application reports, file preparation for reviewing and assisting students with technical questions concerning navigation of PeopleSoft/SOLAR to accommodate students’ needs

Qualifications


  • Additional experience in job-related field may be substituted for required education, on a year for year basis.
  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a job-related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Equivalent to two (2) years of full-time, technical, analytical, or administrative experience.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Working knowledge of: general practices, program, and/or administrative specialty. Working knowledge of operational analysis and techniques. Thorough knowledge of budgets, policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to credit and non-credit applications, transcript entries and validations, and application technical support. General working knowledge of: CSUN policies and procedures; Microsoft Office Suite programs, including word processing software, Outlook calendaring, database management, and spreadsheet software, and demonstrated ability to use the web to gather information; PeopleSoft and OnBase; multiple features of copier, scanner, FAX machine, and Cisco IP Office Phone; standard office and financial software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability and specialized skills to: interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures; perform basic research and statistical analysis; analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistics; compile, write and present reports related to program or administrative specialty; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; construct email replies that are sent to students and agencies worldwide; answer multiple phone calls; refer caller to the appropriate area as appropriate; respond to student inquiries at the counter.
  • Ability and specialized skills to: quickly learn the programs and services offered by the department to ensure that students, faculty, and staff are guided effectively to the best level of assistance; establish and maintain accurate records and files; organize projects, set priorities, and move a project forward effectively; work with diverse populations; work as part of a larger unit team; take on and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  • Ability to demonstrate: excellence in English writing, editing, document preparation, and oral communications on phone and in person with clients and colleagues; strong math skills to understand basic registration and financial aid processes, and related tuition and financial questions and concepts; attention to detail; strong sense of personal responsibility and high personal standards for performance; exceptional personal integrity and unquestionable honesty and forthrightness


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule


  • The position is currently hybrid (3days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification/grade: 1038 / AA/S / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3518 - $4900 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3518 - $6791 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
  • REG: This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
