Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY
This position will assume a cross-functional role leading Pfizer’s Antimicrobial Testing Leadership & Surveillance (ATLAS) program, which was created to monitor global, regional, and local antimicrobial resistance trends and to inform healthcare practitioners on emerging susceptibility data to fight against antimicrobial resistance. The ATLAS program also has other uses beyond monitoring trends such as discovery and identification of antimicrobial (bacterial and fungal) resistance mechanisms, and it may be able to expand to additional research endeavors aside from antimicrobial resistance such as research pertaining to infectious disease, vaccines, and antivirals. This role could help to accelerate expansion into these areas.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop key performance indicators to facilitate evaluation of program success and impact
  • Serve as strategy partner with Research Unit for discovery and development of new antimicrobials, antivirals, or vaccines
  • Ensure that the ATLAS program maintains industry leadership as premier antimicrobial surveillance platform to internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide cross-functional support to members of Scientific Affairs, Medical Affairs, Data Management, Statisticians & Real-world Data experts to support planning and executing of any secondary activities associated with the ATLAS program
  • Ensure alignment of commercial, development, and medical priorities with ATLAS program activities
  • Liaise with team members of the Vaccines, Antivirals, and Evidence Generation, Internal Medicine and Hospital, and Anti-infectives WRD/GPD teams to ensure that the ATLAS program meets the ongoing needs of both functional lines
  • Guide development of antimicrobial asset annual operational plans and strategies
  • Coordinate with the ATLAS team, including any vendors, to complete data collection and data analysis and to present/publish results
  • Contribute to strategic direction of Vaccines, Antivirals, and Evidence Generation and Internal Medicine and Hospital teams
  • In coordination with project management colleagues, execute ATLAS program activities within allocated budget
  • Ensure critical data elements are included and accurate on ATLAS program website that has both internal and external users
  • Perform periodic assessments of ATLAS functioning to ensure program efficiency
  • Be a core strategy partner for assets supported by the ATLAS program that would:
    • Guide development of antimicrobial asset annual operational plans and strategies
    • Contribute to Phase IV program strategy for antimicrobial assets and ensure alignment between the strategy and the ATLAS program activities
    • Liaise with commercial and country colleagues to determine country-specific priorities and strategy and account for these within ATLAS program
    • Serve as strategy partner with Research Unit for discovery and development of new antimicrobials, antivirals, or vaccines
    • Provide input on non-antimicrobial asset annual operational plans and strategies that could be supported by ATLAS
  • Lead cross-functional team meetings to inform on and to troubleshoot critical ATLAS program issues and to provide strategic direction and alignment across the program
  • Ensure that the ATLAS program maintains regulatory compliance, technical integrity, and overall high quality
  • Provide routine updates and communications about results and impact generated by ATLAS activities
  • Contribute to Phase IV program strategy for antimicrobial assets and ensure alignment between the strategy and the ATLAS program activities
  • Liaise with commercial and country colleagues to determine country-specific priorities and strategy and account for these within ATLAS program

    • Expanding data collection beyond antimicrobial surveillance to include infectious disease trends for pathogens relevant to vaccines and antivirals programs

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training
  • PhD in infectious disease, microbiology, or pharmacology and at least 8 years of experience in clinical, pharmacological, or infectious disease research; Masters and 13+ years of experience; Bachelors and 15+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surveillance systems and data sources for monitoring infectious diseases and antimicrobials
  • Recognized expert in antimicrobial research to be credible both internally and externally as evidenced by one or more of the following:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of microbiology, antibiotic resistance epidemiology and mechanisms, and infectious diseases
  • Presenting author for at least 5 abstracts at international scientific congresses
  • Principal or lead investigator for at least two major projects
  • Lead or senior author of at least 5 peer-reviewed publications or book chapters
Strategic/Analytical
  • Understand the critical data elements related to assessing the public health value of anti-infectives and vaccines, ability to oversee or conduct public health analyses of, and ability to interpret data and data limitations for both Pfizer and competitor products
  • Able to review, evaluate, interpret, and present complex data; understand the emerging data on antimicrobial resistance, trends, profiles, and mechanisms; understand the emerging data on infectious diseases
Leadership
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, and proven track record of delivering high quality within timelines

Project management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including scientific writing skills as evidence by lead authorship in at least 5 peer-reviewed publications in English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to conduct independent data analyses and familiarity with a least one statistical software program (SPSS, Stata, R, etc.) (note that independent data analysis will not be part of the position’s role)
  • An established network of KOLs within the antimicrobial and infectious disease research field and relationships with established academic institutions
  • Knowledge of the commercial and environmental issues that drive antimicrobial, antiviral, and vaccine development
  • Knowledge of industry landscape regarding in-line and pipeline antimicrobials of both Pfizer and competitors
  • Experience supporting regulatory strategy for launch and legacy assets
  • Working understanding of structured data available from real-world data sources that would facilitate contributions on projects involving these data
  • Working understanding of possible uses of AI on data collected from ATLAS program activities or sourced elsewhere

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $185,800.00 to $309,600.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 22.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Salary range does not apply to the Tampa, FL location.
Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and/or eligibility.
