Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Antibody Developability Scientist to join our team focused on developing next-generation antibody therapeutics with optimized developability and pharmacokinetics. You will work closely with other members of the research team to design and engineer antibody candidates with improved properties, using state-of-the-art techniques and technologies. The role includes opportunities to pursue self-driven research and development in infectious disease and countermeasure design for future pandemic preparedness as part of the Biosciences and Biotechnology Division.
You will:
- Proactively identify liabilities for antibody developability or pharmacokinetics and engineer mitigations using computational prediction tools, molecular biology, protein engineering, and other relevant techniques.
- Collaborate with our team of diverse expertise, including biochemists, infectious disease biologists, engineers, and computational biologists, to develop and optimize antibody screening and selection strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Develop new and innovative research approaches relevant to the needs of Laboratory programs and/or external funding agencies; write proposals, secure funding, and establish independent research projects.
- Contribute to and actively participate in the development of integrated research programs to meet sponsor needs in multiple national security focus areas. Interact with senior project staff and management to influence programmatic decisions.
- Interact with external collaborators and/or contract research organizations to explore and/or execute commercial complementation toward program goals.
- Conduct assessments of antibody candidates and identify potential issues related to stability, aggregation, and other properties that may affect manufacturing and formulation.
- Prepare complex written analyses and verbal briefings and present research results at national and international conferences, technical meetings, periodic progress reports, and author scientific manuscripts.
- Analyze and interpret data generated from traditional developability/PK studies and novel highthroughput proxy approaches to guide antibody design and optimization.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of high throughput developability and/or pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, including assessment and mitigation strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with researchers from diverse fields, including computational and experimental biologists, and provide scientific guidance, support, and leadership as needed.
- Demonstrated expertise in antibody engineering and protein design.
- Advanced written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deliver presentations, prepare written reports and to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff.
- PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a field related to Antibody or Biopharmaceutical Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Qualifications we desire:
- Expertise in high throughput antibody production and screening platforms.
- Broad familiarity with sequence- and structure-based protein modeling tools.
- Familiarity with cutting edge protein display platforms (e.g., yeast, phage, etc.) for high throughput data generation or evaluation of developability, affinity, specificity, and stability.
- Experience implementing and/or maintaining best practices for LIMS.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
