Salary: Hourly $18.33 - $22.91 DOE

DESCRIPTION:

The animal shelter is looking for a person who is friendly, passionate about caring for animals and pets while enforcing animal-related laws established by the city ordinance.

Under the direction of the Animal Care Supervisor, protects residents from stray or vicious animals and related diseases; captures, impounds, adopts out, or when necessary, euthanizes animals humanely; assists with all daily operations of the Animal Care Services Center including custodial work and animal care; prepares and submits reports; collects license, shelter fees; and issues citations for violations of Animal Control Laws.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with the general public, TDHH, law enforcement officers, and co-workers

• Adaptable
• At least one (1) year of animal control or animal handling experience preferred.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Documents field notes from investigation of pet/property owner and maintains accurate, thorough Daily Activity Log.
• Issues citations for violations of Animal Control Laws ensuring complete and accurate information is documented; and testifies in court as required.
• Immediately responds to calls for animal assistance from law enforcement agency staff standing by.
• Collects license, shelter and impoundment fees as required.
• Safely and humanely captures and transports animals including those that are sick, injured or potentially dangerous.
• Properly cleans and maintains assigned city equipment and department vehicles in working condition.
• Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position.
• Assists with affiliated volunteer/community service personnel in the performance of assigned tasks ensuring that correct policies, procedures, and safety standards are maintained.
• AssiSts with events and programs related to Animal Services.
• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
• Writes reports accurately and thoroughly in software management system and records data on appropriate log/forms.
• Performs general cleaning of Animal Care Facilities per specifications.
• Serves as essential emergency personnel when required.
• Euthanizes animals identified by Animal Care Supervisor when necessary, using approved humane methods, and their proper disposition.
• Patrols for stray, vicious or injured animals and responds to citizen complaints, and emergency calls, such as cruelty to animal complaints, animal bites, control of poisonous or dangerous animals, and takes appropriate action.
