Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. Amgen Comparative Medicine is seeking an Animal Care Technician in our Thousand Oaks, CA location. In this vital role you will have a chance to maintain a world-class animal facility central to the discovery of new medicines for the treatment of grievous including oncology, heart disease, and inflammation.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Provide husbandry and perform cage change procedures
  • Handling and restraint of laboratory animals, notably rodents
  • Provide supplies and support for investigators conducting scientific experiments
  • Normally this full-time position, 40 hours per week, will require weekend husbandry coverage on a rotational basis and overtime as needed
  • Monitor inventory of animal feed, bedding, and enrichment amongst other supplies
  • Care for laboratory animals
  • Maintain and organize (5S, lean management) laboratory spaces for success of research
  • Routinely wash, autoclave, and prepare caging and equipment
  • Perform and report daily health observations
  • Operate husbandry-related equipment such as cage wash, autoclave, laminar air flow cabinets, and other equipment
  • May provide support for scientific techniques as directed
  • Assist in receiving process, housing, and shipping

Basic Qualifications:
Associate’s degree and 2 years of animal care or production experience in a laboratory, veterinary, boarding, agriculture, factory, or other setting
Or
2 years in a technical school setting with hands-on experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 4 years of animal care or production experience in a laboratory, veterinary, boarding, agriculture, factory, or other setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, protective clothing, and eye safety glasses
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • RVT, BS/BA, and/or Associates in animal science, biology, or related field; other degrees will be considered case-by-case
  • Desire to be a team player in a dynamic, cross-functional environment
  • Basic commutation skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word plus the ability to fill online forms
  • In vivo rodent skills including handling and sample collections
  • Animal care or production experience in at least one setting: laboratory, veterinary, boarding, agriculture, factory, or other settings
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, use of hand, walk, bend, kneel, sit, and occasionally move materials up to 50 pounds
  • AALAS certification at the ALAT level

This position will be paid on an hourly basis. The annualized base pay range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $55,784 - $71,501.
