Job Description
Humane Society Naples (HSN), Southwest Florida's state-of-the-art no-kill shelter, is seeking candidates for the position of full time Animal Care Team Member. We seek a positive, service-oriented individual who will provide care for shelter companion animals as if they were their own, and engage with members of the public seeking to adopt a pet in need of a forever home. In return, you will be rewarded with a fulfilling and meaningful career helping companion animals find their forever homes, an energetic and fun work environment, a supportive team, and excellent benefits. Candidates must be willing to care for and handle both dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments.
Responsibilities:
We're not going to lie -- this job is hard work, but so incredibly rewarding! When you hear contented purrs, see wagging tails, and watch folks walk out the door with their new best friend, you go home knowing you've changed lives. As a member of our animal care team, you can expect to work collaboratively with a team of employees & volunteers to:
  • Make sure every cat, dog, guinea pig, and rabbit gets enough to food and water
  • Play matchmaker between potential adopters and the cats, dogs, and other critters who need a home
  • Take special care of sick or injured cats and dogs, or those with behavior challenges, until they are ready for adoption
  • Keep a close eye on the animals for signs of illness or injury.
  • Snuggle cats, walk dogs, pat the bunny, and make sure everyone has the toys and treats they need to keep them entertained
  • Clean kennels and other enclosures to provide clean, comfortable quarters for our furry friends
  • Make visitors to the shelter feel welcome and appreciated
  • Keep our furry friends comfy with blankets and beds (this means there's some laundry to do!)
Who are we looking for?
We are willing to train the right person how to do the job, but we'd like you to bring these qualities and skills to the table:
  • Willingness to work with both dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
  • Able to go with the flow and be flexible when plans change suddenly
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs independently
  • Comfortable with computer use, and willing & able to learn new software
  • Detail-oriented, positive, patient, compassionate
  • The ability to speak Spanish or Haitian Creole in addition to English is a plus!
  • Safety-conscious
  • Plays well with others and loves to help people
We want you to have a high school diploma or GED. Additional education is great, especially if it's in biology or animal behavior or the veterinary field, but it's OK if college wasn't for you.
If you have at least one year of experience working in a shelter, vet clinic, boarding facility, sanctuary, or zoo, that does stand out to us, but it's not absolutely required.
Schedule:
Individuals hired for a full-time position will work five 8-hour shifts, 8 am - 5 pm with an hour for lunch. Candidates must be available weekends and holidays.
Pay and Benefits:
  • A generous benefits package that includes
  • 403(b) retirement plan; matching contributions after one year of service
  • Pay starts at $17.00/hr. Paid weekly.
  • Paid time off, including paid parental leave
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • $25,000 life insurance policy at no cost to you
  • Affordable supplemental insurance plans (disability, accident, etc.)
  • Discounts on veterinary services
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. HSN values diversity and wants to increase the diversity of our team. We are an equal opportunity employer.
Application Instructions:
  • If you have technical issues or questions, please email [email protected]
  • No phone calls or walk-ins please
  • All communication with candidates will be over email and/or text - check your spam folder!
