Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE)- Office of School Improvement is recruiting for an experienced Alternative Education Support Specialist. Under the direction of the Office of School and District Improvement, the Alternative Education Support Specialist facilitates a variety of continuous improvement supports for all of Georgia’s alternative education programs, schools, and districts. The Alternative Education Support Specialist collaborates with GaDOE staff and alternative education leaders to guide and support continuous improvement through coordinating, implementing, and monitoring resources and supports. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Description of Duties
- Liaise between alternative education needs and state agency supports and resources
- Guide alternative education leaders in creating and sustaining a culture of data-driven decision making
- Support alternative education leaders with the development of structures and processes that support standards-based, job-embedded, results-driven professional learning
- Perform other such duties as assigned by the Program Manager
- Prepare and deliver professional development
- Develop, implement, and monitor the impact of initiatives that support alternative education leaders to build systemic processes that improve student academic outcomes
- Support alternative education leaders in the development, implementation, and continuous monitoring of a formalized system of data-driven intervention(s)
- Collaborate with alternative education leaders to implement the Georgia Alternative Education Program standards
- Support alternative education leaders in creating program, school and district improvement plans with measurable goals
- Provide a variety of supports to field staff who work directly with districts
- Identify and scale up innovative practices in alternative education, high-leverage instructional practices for alternative schools, and evidence-based strategies to support alternative education leaders
- Analyze data at the school, district, and state agency levels to engage in data-driven decision making for alternative program, school, district and state agency processes and goals
- Support and coach alternative education leaders in continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
- Experience in building the capacity of organizations to improve processes and better outcomes
- Successful experience and skill in leading alternative schools/programs
- Proven data analysis and visualization expertise
- Strong work ethic, self-directed, and self-motivated
- Experience in data analysis and the organization and implementation of major school initiatives
- Demonstrated success in team building
- Experience in working with district level professional staff with a focus on instruction and/or leadership
- Successful experience and skill in program management
- Strong knowledge base of best practices in leadership and standards-based instruction
- Experience working with adult learners
- Experience in coaching school and district leaders
- Georgia Professional Standards Commission certificate in educational leadership at level L-5, L-6, or L-7
- Experience and skills in coordinating and effectively utilizing a variety of resources to meet program goals
- Knowledge of state and federal guidelines, including Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
- Experience in successfully coaching both new and experienced leaders
- Successful experience and skill in leading school turnaround
*This is a statewide position. Regional and some statewide travel is required.
