This is junior technical role for a growing engineer to research, design, develop, analyze, and test a variety of mechanical/aeronautical systems for government customers in the aerospace industry. The successful candidate would be a key contributor to the mechanical / aerospace team. They will wear many hats they as they work closely with more senior engineers on tasks like mechanical design, structural analysis, payload integration, aerodynamics, composite materials, airworthiness, manufacturing readiness, and/or flight testing with consultation from other engineering disciplines.

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering group is a high performing team with a breadth of experience in mechanical design, electronics manufacturing, electronics packaging, structural, and aircraft integration. The level II mechanical engineer will perform the following: Design and analysis of mechanical components and assemblies for airborne systems. Select materials, structures, hardware suitable for application in the payload. Develop and conduct testing to validate engineering analysis models. Convert vehicle operation envelop definition and customer requests into payload and component requirements. Create multiple concept solutions to those requirements and execute the chosen path. 3D CAD (SolidWorks) design and drafting of mechanical/electrical components and assemblies. Performing vendor research, selection, and interface. Support sustaining engineering and low run initial production.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills including a passionate and can-do attitude.
  • Position is hybrid with typically 3 or more days on site each week.
  • Working knowledge of the fundamental principles for performing mechanical design and analysis including structural, thermal, or vibration.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Works well as a part of a team.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Travel: less than 10%
  • Familiarity with and ability to use and manipulate technical drawings in mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
  • Ability to work with others across mechanical, aeronautical, electrical, and materials engineering disciplines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering (or similar).

Desired Requirements (highly qualified candidate, but not required):

  • Experience with airframe or airborne stores design.
  • Basic machine shop and small part fabrication experience.
  • Carbon and Fiberglass Composite and/or Aluminum design and/or fabrication experience.
  • Experience with Electronics packaging.
  • Experitise with MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-8591, MIL-STD-8856, MIL-STD-1763.
  • Proficient with analysis tools including Ansys, SolidWorks, or NASTRAN.
  • Experience with aerospace vehicle or flight hardware.
