Job Description

Description

:

Leidos is looking for engineers with an Aerospace background to support our growing work in the Aerophysics Group. These are technical engineering positions to develop models, perform numerical analysis, develop numerical tools, and support the design of high speed weapons systems. Work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world in the high profile area of hypersonic weapons systems.

The Aerophysics group operates in a small team environment where individual creativity is rewarded, and continuous learning is the norm. Located at Eglin AFB, FL or King of Prussia, PA, have direct access to DOD personnel and work directly with the organizations developing the most advanced weapons systems in the world. The Destin-Fort Walton Beach and surrounding area is home to world-famous beaches and the ‘salt life’ Emerald Cost lifestyle.

With opportunities for entry through chief engineer levels, these positions are a great match with aerospace engineers interested in positions in a variety of aerospace areas like the following:

Hypersonic Design Engineering

Specialize in developing engineering software for hypersonic concept generation and analysis. This includes fast-running aerothermal modeling, computational geometry and meshing, high-speed aerodynamic shape optimization, and system-level multi-objective optimization.

Research new design methodologies for hypersonic and high performance weapons systems. Develop novel analysis techniques in computational fluid dynamics, structural dynamics, heat transfer, and shape optimization, as well as coupled multiphysics analysis tools. Develop software tools that push the envelope of today’s modeling and simulation capabilities.

Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineering

Technical engineering to support design and analysis of advanced missiles with state of the art control systems. Modeling and Simulation of missile performance will be conducted which requires knowledge of missile systems, including the acquisition and tracking sensors, and missile propulsion, aerodynamics, GNC, and seeker performance. You will have the opportunity to work directly with US Government and prime contractors on the development of an advanced air-to-air and counter-hypersonics missile system.

Apply your prior aerospace modeling and simulation to design and analyze next generation missiles. Use your ability to perform or support 6-DOF simulations to compare performance among various missile technologies and different system architectures. Utilize standard metrics of missile performance to communicate the benefits of this missile to customer stakeholders

Computational Fluid Dynamic Engineering

Technical engineering performing computational fluid dynamics modeling and simulation for supersonic and hypersonic missiles. The candidate will perform gridding, computational fluid dynamics simulations, gas dynamics calculations, flow visualization, and workflow programming, using both local and DoD Distributed Supercomputing Resource Centers for massive deployment and monitoring of solutions and harvesting of results. These solutions will be used to generate multi-fidelity aerodynamic data and interfaced with computational structural dynamics models to advance research in fluid-thermal-structural interactions (FTSI) of high speed missiles.

Required Experience Level: Bachelor’s in engineering in Aerospace, Mechanical, or similar and 2+ years of relevant experience.

Clearance: Must be a U.S. Citizen with active Secret clearance.

Experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Prior experience in system analysis and trade space analysis
  • Post processing CFD data
  • Computational fluid dynamics for supersonic / hypersonic flows (CART3D or KESTREL preferred)
  • Numerical gridding (Pointwise or similar)
  • CFD tools and analysis
  • Preparation of flight test plan and/or range safety review
  • Experience with Artificial Neural Nets (TensorFlow, MATLAB tools)
  • Solidworks or similar CAD experience
  • MATLAB
  • ANSYS, LS-DYNA, Sierra Tool suite
  • Scripting to enable numerical codes to communicate and to run in a batch fashion (Python and C++)
  • CART3D, KESTREL, US3D, FUN3D, CFD++
  • Operating on supercomputing clusters
  • Flight test planning of weapons systems
  • Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, Sierra Tools)
  • Python Scripting, Object Oriented Programming
