RWJBH is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APN/PA) to work in our Children's Hospital at the New Brunswick campus. This is a full, day position.


Summary: Participates in a collegial relationship with the physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. Performs in an expanded nursing role by providing care to pediatric surgical patients, which includes taking histories, making assessments, ordering lab tests, reviewing and reporting diagnostic lab values, conducting outpatient clinics or inpatient service as directed.


Responsibilities


  • May participate in departmental research activities as requested.
  • Follows patients in the outpatient practice as assigned.
  • Ensures completion of all needed preoperative or diagnostic tests, forms, and documents.
  • Performs history documentation and meets all regulatory of policy standards pertaining to outpatient, inpatient or OR regulatory bodies.
  • Provides standards of care and practices evidence based medicine at all times.
  • Interfaces with families to obtain and provide information concerning patient's medical care and progress.
  • Performs in an expanded nursing role and has responsibility for meeting the needs of the patient population served by the Division of Pediatric Surgery.
  • Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment or related therapeutic procedures.
  • Oversees patient pre-and post-op teaching for discharge preparation.
  • Interfaces with physicians and other specialists concerning patient care.
  • Keeps abreast of hospital, university and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs daily rounds, independently and with physicians and performs needed clinical tasks including progress notes orders, dressing changes, and other care as needed.
  • Provides patient education to meet the needs of the patient/family.
  • Keeps abreast of all federal, state and University regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Coordinates appropriate referrals to specialties for patient care consultation.
  • Collects relevant data and prepares patient's discharge packet including needed prescriptions.


Requirements/Qualifications


  • National certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse/Nurse Practitioner in a clinically relevant specialty.
  • Current license as a registered professional nurse and advanced practice nurse in the State of
  • Master s degree in nursing required.
  • Current license as a registered professional nurse and advanced practice nurse in the State of New Jersey.
  • Two to five years of experience as an advanced practice nurse required.
  • At least 3 -5 years of experience in an acute care setting preferred.
