The Adopt-A-Stream Coordinator works as part of a team to coordinate the SC Adopt-a-Stream volunteer monitoring program.


Job Duties


  • Promote and expand the Adopt-a-Stream program. Develop, update, and distribute program materials.
  • Help coordinate and lead trainer trainings, recertifications, and annual events.
  • Coordinate with state partners in leading the Adopt-a-Stream program. Organize and conduct training workshops to include water sampling techniques and estuarine, lake and stream ecology and habitats. Maintain communication with local coordinators, trainers, and volunteers. Follow-up with volunteers and trainers via surveys and other feedback. Help coordinate and attend trainer trainings, recertifications, and annual events. Assist volunteers and trainers with questions, database alerts, equipment and supplies. May require weekend work, overnight travel, and must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Keep immediate supervisor appraised of program progress, activities, and issues.


Additional Qualifications


Working knowledge and experience in the use of GIS mapping, aquatic biology, water quality sampling, and fundamentals of SE estuary, stream, and lake ecology and habitats required. Must be able to effectively work with and communicate with members of the public. Must have the skills and experience to lead, teach, and demonstrate procedures involving water quality monitoring. Must have knowledge and skills in event planning and coordination, ability to lead and coordinate large meetings, excellent writing and communication skills, coordinate and work successfully with internal and external stakeholders, have excellent time management skills, and research and data management skills. Minimum and Additional Requirements


A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field.
