Job Description

Introduction

The Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture (MCAAHC), is seeking an experienced and energetic individual to fill the position of Administrator I Education Coordinator) in their office.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

The Education Coordinator, under the supervision of the Director of Programs, leads the BDM out of school time, youth & family, and volunteer Docent programs. Assists in the development and implementation of museum education and interpretive programs. The Coordinator is responsible for improving the educational and social outcomes of program participants by offering quality instruction, relevant social support, and impactful experiences.

POSITION DUTIES

Job duties include:

  • Implement and evaluate the various out-of-school-time curriculum that integrates culturally responsive approaches and best practices;
  • Analyze and monitor programmatic data for ongoing program improvement;
  • Evaluate program progress and outcomes; conduct ongoing assessment of staff needs and performance;
  • Select, monitor, and mentor part-time instructors; Model professional and pedagogical practices for instructors and staff;
  • Identify, train and schedule existing and new museum tour Docents;
  • Implement and communicate BDM program policies and procedures;
  • Collaborate with the BDM team and community partners to ensure the quality of BDM programs;
  • Identify potential new partnerships for BDM out-of-school time and youth & family programming;
  • Network with the out-of-school time community to stay abreast of trends, practices, and the evolving field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : A Bachelor's degree in Education, Museum Studies, or related field from an accredited college or university

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

3-5 years of experience in a museum education/programming or classroom setting preferred.
Experience leading or managing African-American history, art and cultural youth and family programs.
