The Position


Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.


Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.


Incumbent provides program support to the State of Nevada Sex Offender Registry. Incumbent is responsible for receiving/sorting and prepping all incoming mail via email or electronic copies containing sex offender records of registrations, verifications of record of registration, changes of information, photographs, fingerprint/palm print and criminal histories associated with each requirement. Additionally, incumbents will be tasked with completing NCIC (National Crime Information Center) validations, which consists of comparing offender information contained in the case file and the SORT system to information provided by NCIC and making sure all information from both sources is accurately contained in the record of registration and the NCIC database. Incumbents are also tasked with the auditing of sex offender case files to ensure the information entered into the system is accurate. This consists of reviewing registration information, as well as police reports and court documents, which may contain graphic information regarding sex offenses. This position requires certification in NCJIS/NCIC within six months of employment and recertification every two years for continued employment. Certification will be conducted by the Division. To Qualify


In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:


Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes This position has a 25% travel requirement. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. Skills Required Reading and discussing sexually graphic crimes against children and adults daily. Interaction with registered sex offenders. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
