Job Description

TITLE: Activity Assistant

REPORTS TO : Executive Director

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Activity Assistant will assist in the planning, coordinating and implementing therapeutic activity programs on a daily basis to meet the individual Resident’s needs and interests.

Qualifications: The Activity Assistant needs to have a thorough knowledge of various Resident activities and have familiarity with Resident limitations and needs. The Activity Assistant must also be able to work in close cooperation with the Executive Director, accept and utilize constructive criticism and display initiative to complete activity related tasks and programs.

General Responsibilities:

  • Transmission-based precautions
  • Assist in maintaining planters, flowers, bird feeders as needed.
  • Dependable and punctual attendance.
  • Assist with an evaluation of resident according to their backgrounds, activity interests, abilities, physical limitations and needs for meaningful activity programs.
  • Ensure all daily mail is received by all residents.
  • Job specific competencies and competencies identified by the assessment of residents’ needs
  • Develop and display thematic/holiday decorations throughout the facility.
  • Assist residents to and from activity programs.
  • Basic competencies of dementia management, infection control and other areas as identified through the facility assessment.
  • Assist and/or lead assigned group or one-to-one activity programs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date daily attendance chart on each resident.
  • Report any changes in resident behavior, safety hazards or procedural difficulties to the Executive Director.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities required by OSHA Hazard communication, HIPPA, QAPI and other organizations.
  • Reporting changes in residents conditions
  • Basic competencies of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and misappropriation of resident property.
  • Respond to emergency codes, ie: fire
  • Knowledge and basic competency of operation of exit alarms
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Help assist and instruct volunteers when necessary.
  • Attend and participate at staff meeting, in-service training programs and other meetings as assigned.
  • Serve residents coffee/snacks – Assist with serving resident beverages at noon meal.

  • Assist in maintaining equipment and supplies in a neat and safe manner.
