Location: Onsite at USCG FINCEN, 1430A Kristina Way, Chesapeake, VA 23326


Position Description


The Accountant I assists Senior Accountants preparing and reviewing property records to support the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of asset activity within the financial statements.


Minimum/General Experience: 1 year of asset accounting experience


Minimum Education: Bachelors' Degree in accounting or business administration or similar concentration


Essential Skills/Qualifications


  • Ability to follow established processes and procedures
  • Above average attention to detail
  • Ability to conduct research, including internet research
  • Experience performing audit readiness work as a government employee or contractor directly in support of an audit readiness task order
  • Experience monitoring and tracking documents throughout SharePoint site
  • Experience reviewing documents for accuracy, completeness, and authorized approvals per established policies and procedures
  • Effective in interpersonal relationship building and collaboration
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a cohesive team
  • Above average proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word


Security: Ability to obtain/maintain a Moderate Background Investigation (MBI)


  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident that has lived in the United States for at least 3 years


Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) A MBI Is Conducted By Office Of Personnel Management (OPM) And Consists Of a Review Of Up To But Not Limited To


  • DOD Defense Central Investigations Index (DCII)
  • FBI fingerprint check
  • Covers 5-10 year period and in some instances lifetime events
  • Written inquiries to previous employers and references listed on the application for employment
  • Court records check
  • Potential interviews with the subject, spouse, neighbors, supervisor, coworkers
  • OPM Security Investigations Index (SII)
  • Education check- Attendance and Degrees
  • National Agency Check (NAC) records
  • FBI name check
  • Law enforcement check
  • Credit report check


Tasks/activities Include, But Are Not Limited To


  • Supports the asset tracking document system (e.g., SharePoint)
  • Updates systems for excess inventory (e.g., gsaacess.com)
  • Performs accounting adjustments
  • Develops and updates policies, procedures, and user manuals
  • Supports quality and program management activities
  • Supports annual inventory reviews
  • Supports the tracking and monitoring of personal property inventory
