Company Overview:


Petrus Trust Company, LTA (“Petrus”), serves as a single-family office for a prominent family in Dallas. The office provides accounting, bill pay, payroll, tax, investment management, and other services. Petrus is looking to hire a Family Office Accountant to join its new Incubator Services team.


Position Summary:


Petrus is hiring a Family Office Accountant to join its new Incubator Services team. This department offers a suite of solutions for family members starting new business ventures, such as general accounting, HR, payroll, AP, etc. Establishing solutions for and supporting these core business functions will create a solid platform for growth, at which point the business can run independently after 1-2 years.


Responsibilities:


Establish Vendor Solutions


  • Maintain and provide support for these business solutions during the first 1-2 years
  • Ensure smooth transfer of books and vendor accounts when the business is ready to run independently.
  • Implement and establish accounts for selected vendor solutions (QuickBooks, Gusto payroll, Square point of sale, etc.)
  • Gain an understanding of business needs and select a suite of vendor solutions based on business industry, size, etc.


Journal Entries:


  • Prepare entries related to partner capital activity for investment partnerships
  • Prepare entries for operating activity, including start up costs, monthly accruals, etc.


Financial Reporting:


  • Design and/or modify recurring financial statements and other reports
  • Assist with preparation of daily, monthly, and quarterly financial statements and other reports


Required Skills and Abilities:


  • Ability and willingness to learn and leverage new accounting and reporting systems
  • Familiarly with QuickBooks, Tableau, and SQL, a plus
  • Self-motivated in nature to contribute to team success
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to contribute ideas to improve processes, procedures, and systems efficiency
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to manage confidential information in a discreet and professional manner


Education and Experience:


  • CPA or CPA eligible required
  • Experience working directly with small businesses is a plus
  • Minimum of two years of accounting experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting or related field
