- Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, psychology, biochemistry, or closely related field with three years of professional academic advising experience working directly with students in a higher education setting OR Master’s degree in Student affairs in Higher Education, neuroscience, psychology, biochemistry, or closely related field with one year of professional academic advising experience working directly with students in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated ability to do detailed work, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast paced work environment
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Graduate coursework or certification in higher education student affairs or neurosciences.
- Experience working with student information systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion evidenced by personal, work, or educational experience
- Master’s degree in neuroscience, psychology, biochemistry, or related field with three years of professional academic advising experience working directly with students in a higher education setting.
- Master’s degree and five years professional academic advising experience working directly with students in pre-medical or pre-health professional programs
- While working closely with the undergraduate program Director, provide support to program operations for the neuroscience undergraduate major including the following:
- Engage in training and professional development opportunities.
- Prepare internal and external reports.
- Provide advising for students seeking the major which includes holding group and/or individual advising sessions, fielding advising inquiries, and completing graduation contracts.
- Assist with undergraduate program communications projects which are directed at prospective students, current students, and alumni; may include use of social media.
- Review contracts for degree processing; prepare for college graduation ceremonies; and attend graduation ceremonies.
- Assist with special projects as requested, such as developing and implementing advising workshops, report writing, participating in the first-year seminar, writing recommendation letters, and others as appropriate.
- Participate in program assessment initiatives.
- Participate in University orientation programs including Ram Orientation and Ram Welcome.
- Maintain ongoing advising/mentoring relationship starting at first-year and transfer orientation continuing through graduation; identify best practices to implement a developmental advising approach.
- Participate in student recruitment efforts; meet with and advise prospective students and their guests.
- Provide direct support for maintaining program records including admissions, enrollment, cohort composition, diversity, demographics, career outcomes, and alumni contacts.
- Assist with developing, maintaining, and updating recruiting and advising publications and undergraduate information both in print and on the web.
- Utilize data to discern patterns of success/difficulty and design strategic interventions.
- Participate in proactive outreach and retention efforts consistent with those recommended by the University Collaborative for Student Achievement.
- Assist with alumni relations including tracking and developing on-going relationships; help to develop philanthropic culture among undergraduate students in collaboration with College Development Office.
- Facilitate connections that engage students in faculty research and faculty mentoring relationships.
- Engage in training and professional development opportunities.
- Serve as a contributing member of the advising team within the program and across colleges to develop and implement a vision that provides students with comprehensive and holistic advising services to promote student success.
- Partner with campus resources to facilitate and support student success.
- Provide administrative service to the program/college and initiate special projects as requested.
- Serve as the advisor for the Neuroscience Student Organization.
- Participate in campus-wide intervention strategies.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of and make appropriate referrals to campus resources and opportunities in advising and intervention.
- Develop and utilize advising best practices that combine program-level knowledge and campus-wide perspective.
- Actively participate in Academic Support Coordinator Network, including sharing of best practices.
