- Graduate Degree in Social Work ( MSW ) and a minimum of 2 years social work experience
- Demonstrated written communication skills as evidenced by application materials
- Experience with data gathering and interpretation
- Fluency in Spanish with minimum of conversational ability
- Experience living within or collaborating with institutionally under-resourced communities
- Experience with Collegiate Student Diversity Programs and Services
- Experience and enthusiasm for working with diverse students as an instructor, advisor and/or mentor
- Experience advising or otherwise supporting first generation students
- Instructor for up to 6 credits per semester of baccalaureate-level curriculum
- Provide support for students outside of class through office hours, responses to questions, and connection to additional supports as needed
- Other teaching duties as assigned.
- Develop connections to campus resources and opportunities
- Create systems to identify and develop specialized supports for social work students experiencing academic difficulty
- Tracking of students who have low GPA’s or have not completed prerequisites.
- Provide pre-admission advising to students considering the Social Work major
- Work with students to develop and update a personalized academic plan
- Assist in data collection
- Participate and advise potential students at all advising fairs
- Facilitate and promote the honors program for social work majors
- Act as the source of information for students experiencing difficulties that need intervention
- Act as key advisor for the School of Social Work undergraduate program
- Host information sessions for relevant post-graduation opportunities
- Serve as member of the SOSW Committee for Social Justice
- Develop familiarity with issues certain populations of students may experience (e.g., non-traditional students, students of color, first generation college students, transfer students, veterans, etc.) and incorporate this perspective into developmental advising approaches developing programmatic supports as needed.
- Other student support/advising duties as assigned.
- Provide support for students experiencing difficulty in coursework
- Coordinate visitation for prospective transfer students
- Examine data from university provided indicators for social work majors who need follow-up and intervention
- Develop information sessions for seniors who are interested in graduate school
- Direct departmental tours for prospective students and families (may involve occasional evenings and weekends)
- Assist current students, prospective students and their families to understand the Social Work major and opportunities within the School, acting as the first contact with the undergraduate program
- Provide comprehensive advising for transfer students and incoming first year students
- Other cross-campus duties as assigned
- Actively participate in the Academic Success Coordinator Network, including sharing of best practices
- Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of campus resources and opportunities, particularly for first-generation students, Pell-grant eligible students, students with DACA status, students who speak Spanish as a first language, and international students
- Participate and attend all key advisor trainings
- Develop and utilize advising best practices that combine department level knowledge and campus-wide perspective
- Participate in campus-wide intervention strategies
- Facilitate connections that engage students in faculty research
- Implement intentional plans to engage students and faculty in mentoring relationships
- Provide service to the School, College, and/or campus through committee work, ad hoc service, and special projects as requested by the Director of the School of Social of Work
