Position Summary
Informs and assists students and prospective students with admission process. This includes pre-professional semester schedule planning, scheduling of shadowing experiences, and answering questions about the program during advising or recruiting events
Duties & Responsibilities

• Schedules student advising meetings in a timely fashion
• International Program requirements and advise accordingly
• Provides academic advising to students:
• Ensure students are aware of:
• Facilitates changes of major, advising hold lifts, and advisor identification through internet Native Banner for all majors
• Assist students in the creation of 4-year academic plans for applicable major
• Scholarship requirements and advise accordingly
• Monitor progress towards graduation dates
• Maintains accurate student records
• Accurately advises students according to degree requirements
• Meets regularly with Chairs of the Departments as well as SMART

Center office staff and supervisor to provide up-to-date program
information

• Maintains good rapport with all student advisors
• Ambassador Program
• Participate in Professional Development opportunities
• Recruits and promotes programs by participating in:
• Other duties as assigned
• Assist with New Student Registration Days and Preview Days for the programs they represent
• Communicate with the University Advising Center
• Participates in the assessment process when necessary
• Assist with program responsibilities of SMART Center
• Honors College Days
• Will be a liaison with all student clubs and organizations
• Senior Preview Days
• CoSM Clubs
• Corresponds with all student services areas across campus and works fluidly with each department as needed in regard to the needs of student advisors
• Area career and academic fairs
• Assist in retention efforts
• STEM Den Living Learning Community (LLC)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Working knowledge of requirements of various programs within science and mathematics
Possess good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to counsel students
General Days/Hours
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed

Work with chairs of the College, as well as other individuals in the office of the Dean of Sciences and Mathematics for training in areas of advising, counseling and/or curriculum development. Ability to work with target student populations in academic areas, career opportunities and financial aid. Must be comfortable speaking in small and large group settings
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree
Two (2) years of experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably in an advising capacity. Enthusiasm for helping students attain their educational goals
Minimum Qualifications
An earned Bachelor's Degree in an academic discipline within the College of Sciences and Mathematics, Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
