The PPSE Recovery Room Nurse provides essential care to patients before, during and after surgical abortion procedures. The Recovery Room Nurse works closely with the Physician and assists them during surgical procedures. They ensure that the health center teams provide family planning and abortion services in accordance with PPSE and PPFA polices protocols, and procedures. The Recovery Room Nurse will provide health care information and services to patients in an effective, efficient, and nonjudgmental manner. The Recovery Room nurse will be ACLS certified and provide moderate sedation under the supervision of a physician. The Recovery Room nurse will be a valuable member of the team, supporting the mission, policies, and procedures of PPSE.

What You’ll Do:
Provide nursing care to the patients in recovery room in accordance with all PPSE policies and procedures, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
Assist and monitor patients in recovery room, including taking vital signs, administer medication, giving verbal and written aftercare instructions and birth control information.
Provides education in a non-judgmental manner to patients by providing support, counseling and information on reproductive and sexual health issues.
Responsible for stocking recovery room with necessary supplies.
Establish and maintain IV access as needed.
Assist provider with routine procedures and emergencies during clinical sessions. Ensure patient charts and logs are completed and maintained in a timely, accurate and thorough manner.
Ensure the crash cart is stocked, open and available on surgical days.
Monitor emergency cart inventory and equipment log on a monthly basis for all routine and emergency expired medications and supplies per PPSE protocol. Report any concerns to HCM or ND.
Assists physician with surgical procedures, to include colposcopies, LEEPs, and abortions. Responsible for providing and overseeing care in recovery room of abortion health centers.
Assists with emergency care and maintains integrity of emergency equipment. Initiates IV access.
Administers prescribed medications per standing, written, and verbal orders, including IV/moderate sedation.
Monitors and reports patient responses so that their health needs are met.
Monitors, records, and interprets patients’ responses to medical procedures so that their physical and emotional needs are met and documented.
Prepares and instructs patients with necessary information so that understanding and compliance with their procedure and prescribed care is facilitated.
Initiate problem solving and collaborate with staff to ensure smooth patient flow. Prepares health center areas to facilitate safe and efficient working conditions.
Adheres to affiliate workplace values, service standards, and service recovery. Participates in health center/affiliate efforts to achieve established revenue goals. Participates in health center efforts to achieve established goals for productivity. Remain up-to-date in all PPFA/PPSE required training(s); familiarity and competency in utilizing the CAL (Center for Affiliate Learning).
Provide centralized follow-up services, handle patient medical questions as appropriate, and participate in PPSE’s after-hours call rotation.
Collaborate with Health Center Managers and staff to meet clinic goals, productivity benchmarks, and assigned tasks.
Performs other duties as needed or directed by Lead Clinician, MD(s), or Health Center Manager.

Technical Skills-
Completes all duties, responsibilities and competencies in a manner that is effective and appropriate. Competency is demonstrated when RN can:
Assess the client, taking an accurate and relevant medical, sexual and social history.
Provide accurate information on all contraceptive methods, enabling the client to make informed choices.
Provide accurate information on abortion procedures, tailoring education to fit the needs of the patient.
Provide informed consent for abortion services, as indicated.
Provide pre-op teaching and medication, as indicated.
Provide moderate sedation services, as indicated.
Maintain ACLS certification. Provide recovery room services, as indicated
Recognize emergency situations and act to ensure the health and safety of the patient.
Perform, order and interpret diagnostic tests within the scope of the medical standards and guidelines.
Communicate patient health concerns, lab results, or other issues to the appropriate medical provider.
Document accurately and clearly; demonstrate proficiency in PPSE’s Electronic Health Record system.
Complete tasks that support patient care such as phone consultations and patient follow-up.
Participate in the on call emergency phone rotation.
Participate in continuing medical education as necessary for licensure.
Recognize ethical, legal, and professional issues inherent in providing abortion care to women and their significant others.
Assist other staff as needed.
Demonstrate respect for diversity in daily activities.
Accept direction and supports agency objectives, goals and values

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Hold a degree from a registered nursing program.
Must comply with licensure requirements for practice capacity and have current license in Georgia.
ACLS (if licensed) and BLS (Healthcare Provider CPR) certification.
Basic Skills/Knowledge: Must be committed to quality medical care, informed consent, and confidentiality. Must be sensitive to individual client needs and problems.
Understanding of and strong personal commitment to reproductive rights, as well as goals and philosophies of Planned Parenthood.
Language Skills: Accuracy in verbal and written communications. Bilingual Spanish desirable.
Equipment/Machine use: Medical and office equipment as appropriate.
Must have good computers skills to document in EHR, communicate via email and participate in online learning.
Prefer at least one year of surgical/OR or PACU experience, including administration of IV medications.
Location/Travel/Physical: Reliable transportation to and from work. Travel to Marietta and Lawrenceville Health Centers. Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 50 pounds required. Ability to stand and sit for extended periods.
