The Opportunity
As our upcoming school year, 2023-24 will be our third year in existence as a Montessori program, we are looking for individuals who are excited by and comfortable with being part of this new chapter in HVA history.
Harlem Village Academies is a community of educators working to build an urban school district based on the ideals and tenets of progressive education. HVA is the lab school for the Progressive Education Institute.
The teacher will be responsible for facilitating age 3-6 year olds' emotional and intellectual development within a nurturing classroom environment. They will be intimately familiar with the Montessori approach, and demonstrate the ability to leverage a progressive philosophy in relationships with students and families. Alongside a team of dedicated educators and leaders, the ideal candidate will work tirelessly to build a collaborative, respectful school community that values student empowerment.
Responsibilities
- Create lesson plans and curricula centered around students' developing social, intellectual, and emotional skills
- Establish and uphold classroom routines to ensure a focused, safe and caring environment
- Maintain close relationships with families, including phone calls and conferences
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and ensure student mastery of standards
- Promote student independence, intellectual curiosity and intrinsic motivation
- Monitor and assess progress to identify individual student needs
Qualifications
- Certification in progress (must be completed within 3 years of employment)
- Patience and excellent observational, communication, and diagnostic skills.
- Experience teaching in a Montessori school, preferably in an urban setting
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- 2-3 years of relevant teaching experience required, 5+ years of teaching experience preferred
- Unshakeable conviction that all students can learn at a high level
- A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $62,000 - $104,000, and is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final salary may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications. HVA is committed to providing our team with a range of benefit offerings at a competitive value.
