As a Software Engineering professional at Caterpillar, you will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of Caterpillar’s state-of-the-art digital platform. Software Engineers manage the completion of their own work assignments and coordinates work with others.

This position will build a world class platform to host a wide range of digital applications. Responsibilities are across functional lines with individuals assigned in new program development and/or maintenance of existing mobile, WEB, Cloud, server, personal computer, mainframe, and/or distributed computing systems.

The Quality Assurance Engineer will be a member of the Quality Assurance team under the Cat Digital Platform Group. The Quality Assurance Engineer will work with cross-functional teams that consist of development, test, product management, and program management teams. The primary goal is to lead initiatives and help the organization to improve the quality of products released to customers while helping to build quality focus through entire SDLC. The incumbent will work on multiple new development programs that span across multiple technologies.

Typical Day

A Quality Assurance Engineer will have an opportunity to interact with multiple development and test teams as well as business teams. Disciplined approach and balance between short-term and long-term activities would be required. The Quality Assurance Engineer will participate and sometimes lead meetings that involve different levels of engineers, managers, and senior leaders. Ensuring that data is collected by tools, metrics are updated on a regular basis will be a part of a daily activities. Discovering spikes and defect clusters through different analytical techniques may be needed. Contributing to data analysis and provide status reports for weekly engineering meetings will be also a part of this role. Following up with cross-functional team members to ensure that activities are completed in a timely manner will be part of a regular routine.

Examples of the skills and technologies that previous hires have utilized include:

• Ability to summarize data points into understandable data sets is desired
• Performing certain testing activities may be required to understand problems and learn the technology stack
• Candidate should possess imagination, creativity, and critical thinking to identify and define right KPIs/metrics
• Any experience working with project teams developing software or data analytics programs would be a plus
• Knowledge of statistics and modeling
• Willingness to lead cross-functional teams will benefit this role greatly, and the opportunity to develop and strengthen leadership skills will be presented
• Basic knowledge of SDLC, Agile, and test methodologies would be beneficial
• Knowledge of Java, Python, JavaScript, and SQL
• Familiarity with AWS, ADO, Power BI, and Excel (intermediate)) is desired
• The opportunity to identify high impact issues through data analysis
• Strong analytical skills and data mining skills would be preferred
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build long lasting relationships are required for this role

Basic Qualifications

• Currently attending or recently graduated from a 4-year accredited university/college with a minimum bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or related degree
• Minimum cumulative GPA requirement 3.0/ 4.0 (no rounding)
• Strong communications skills; foundational leadership; strong learning ability; strong desire to learn and grow
• Graduation date between May 2022 through June 2023

• Passion for technology and an eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment
• One year or more of experience in designing and developing software applications in Java or other object-oriented language or a master’s degree in computer science or related field
• Previous demonstrated leadership experience in cross-functional team environment
• Previous technical work experience demonstrating technical aptitude
• One year or more of software development experience or a master’s degree in computer science or related field
• Possess Strong Presentation; Cross-functional team; Prioritization; Self-managed; Detail-oriented while seeing big picture
• Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints
• Must be able/willing to relocate to work location
• Demonstrated experience Business Analysis, SDLC, Statistical data analysis, Dashboards, Cloud Computing, and QA/Test related activities
