Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required

Knowledge of theory, skills, and techniques of interpreting

Knowledge of dialectical varieties of English and Spanish

Certification with Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts preferred

Provide accurate, unbiased translation that captures the literal meaning of each person’s speech

Provide simultaneous and consecutive interpreting services for jury trials, bench trials, and court proceedings

Knowledge in medical terminology preferred.

Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information

Translate messages simultaneously into specified languages while maintaining message content, context and style as much as possible

Listen to speaker’s statements to determine meanings to interpret

Compile terminology and information to be used in translations, including technical terms such as those for legal or medical purposes

Read written materials and rewrite into specified languages as needed

Demonstrates ethical and professional conduct in all job duties performed and in the work environment.

Performs related work as assigned and adapts to changing work requirements.

Two (2) years’ experience in interpretive services, required.

Must pass the agency’s language certification exam.
