Supports the work of treaty-established bodies and extra-conventional mechanisms and special procedures.

Ensures up-to-date information regarding substantive matters in the field of human rights and makes recommendations on actions to take.

Trains and supervises new/junior staff.

Performs other related duties as required.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.

Must take initiative, be highly organized and detail-oriented, and possess strong interpersonal and time-management skills

Experience providing administrative support and/or project management preferred

Manage and coordinate databases, case files, correspondence files, etc.

Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills

Bachelor’s degree or a year of related administrative experience preferred

The salary for this position is $70,557. Generous benefits package provided.

Experience working with individuals receiving services for mental health, substance use, or developmental disabilities.

Experience investigating grievances, complaints or legal situations.

Experience interpreting and applying state or federal laws, rules or regulations.

Experience using mediation techniques or other conflict resolution methods.

Providing consultation, education and training to staff, students, and patients and/or their families/guardians about client rights.

Experience or training conducting investigations (e.g., interviewing witnesses, conducting research, reviewing evidence, etc.).

Training or experience advocating for client or patient rights.

Experience providing consultation, technical assistance, or training regarding patient or client rights or grievance procedures.

Experience working with individuals with mental illness.

Experience working in a secure treatment or correctional facility.

Advocating on behalf of DC prisoners and reducing the impact of an unfair criminal system.

Reviewing and responding to correspondence from individuals who are incarcerated.

Participating in legal calls with clients and intake calls with potential clients and/or loved ones of people who are incarcerated.

Conducting research on relevant issues and policies related to incarceration.

To record receipts, disbursements and expenses in accordance with state requirements, including journal entries.

To assist the agency in meeting affirmative action and equal opportunity requirements.

To direct, supervise and review the work of subordinate support staff engaged in personnel functions.

To be responsible for maintaining office records and processing of forms.

Knowledge of, education in and experience with pedagogy, participatory approaches to education and adult learning models

Background in, knowledge of and passion for human rights education and activism

B.A/B.S. and 5 years of relevant experience in human rights training and education

Create Human Rights Education Training materials to support IAR focused advocacy

Aptitude for developing innovative and creative ideas to use education technology to support effective human rights education work

Presentation skills and ability to represent AI to membership, activists, and external organizations

Monitor legal developments and advise management on changes and trends in the law.

Manage outside counsel and other legal resources.

Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.

2+ years of experience in human rights law and corporate responsibility

Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents.

Research and analyze legal issues and provide sound legal advice.

Experience advocating for human rights, social justice, or public policy
