Fire Alarm Install Technician Jobs

Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors

Knowledge and experience with basic hand tools and test equipment

Complete preventive maintenance (PMs) and client and proactive work orders along with housekeeping responsibilities in the work areas and shop.

Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job

Experience in inspecting, testing / troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and commissioning fire alarm systems

Work under the direct supervision of Project Manager As On-Site Representative

Communicate directly with Project Manager to develop and maintain job plans.

Manage job tasks as required to deliver job on schedule.

Work with other trades for verifying systems interface & functionality requirements are met.

Possess working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) with regard to the Fire safety industry.

Must obtain NICET Fire Alarm Certification Level 1 within 12 months.

Review work orders and job sites to determine materials, parts and procedural requirements.

Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.

Six (6) years of recent professionally paid experience in electronic repair of Fire Alarm Systems.

Must have thorough knowledge of electronics and related equipment and be able to determine the proper materials for each job.

Requisition and/or special order parts and supplies needed to effect repairs.

Replace defective components and wiring and adjust mechanical parts using hand tools and soldering iron.

Must have one (1) or more years of experience.

Must have a working knowledge of enterprise intrusion systems, fire systems, CCTV, intercom, and access control systems.

Working knowledge of local/national codes desired.

Must obtain NICET Level I Certification within one (1) year (for fire alarm systems only).

Must obtain and retain any specific product certifications and/or licenses that are required by national, state and local codes.

Requires 25 % to 50 % proficiency in ADT Commercial’s Enterprise product offerings.

2+ years commercial and/or industrial low voltage experience

BICSI, Lift, and OSHA Certifications are a PLUS

Pull, terminate, dress and label fire alarm cable

Test all installed cable using appropriate testing equipment

Terminate Fire Alarm Panels and Devices.

Read and interpret fire alarm system layouts from blueprints

Experience in servicing and inspecting fire alarm systems (knowledge of Access, Intrusion & CCTV systems a plus).

Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Having a clean NYS Driver’s License is highly desirable.

Perform preventative maintenance on a variety of Fire, Burg, Access and CCTV systems.

Perform inspections on Fire Alarm Systems.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues on alarm systems including ground faults, shorts, opens and unconfigured devices.

Disassembles equipment, cleans, lubricates, and tests for mechanical or electrical effects. Repairs or replaces parts to correct functional deficiency.

Reassembles repaired component and tests for proper function within required specifications.

Disassembles malfunctioning systems; examines and tests mechanism and circuitry for defects.

Troubleshoots equipment in or out of system and replaces or repairs defective parts.

Prepares and implements preventive maintenance procedures.

Perform any other duties as assigned or requested.

Apprentice: Minimal experience and knowledge of fire alarm/electronic field (aptitude required).

Four years of experience in fire alarm field.

Comprehensive knowledge of all state life safety, and fire codes.

Advanced knowledge of fire alarm installation and maintenance techniques.

Skill in the use of various hand and power tools common to the trade.

Skill in troubleshooting and repairing all types of electronic circuitry.

Technical, vocational school is preferred however your years of experience would suffice.

Have in‐depth knowledge of security systems wiring, operation and functions.
