They inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical systems, as well as perform preventative maintenance on grain handling and storage equipment. They must be knowledgeable in the use of hand and power tools, as well as welding and cutting equipment.

Union Grain Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical and electrical systems on grain handling and storage equipment. They must be knowledgeable in the use of hand and power tools, as well as welding and cutting equipment. They must also be able to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. They must be able to troubleshoot and repair equipment, as well as perform preventative maintenance on grain handling and storage equipment. They must also be able to identify and order parts and supplies needed for repairs.
