Knowledge of territory and physical characteristics, train schedules (arrival/departures), and destinations.

Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.

Previous train dispatching experience preferred, or minimum 2 years’ experience as a railroad engineer

Proficient verbal and written communication skills to deliver information to coworker(s) and supervisor(s)

Experience reading and understanding instructions (examples may include: operating and safety rules, bulletins, special instructions, and federal regulatory documents)

Experience working with, on, and around moving heavy equipment (Consider professional, personal, and volunteer experience)

Experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions (consider professional, personal, and volunteer experience)

Experience working 2nd and/or 3rd shifts

Increasing responsibilities expected and required, including the ability to handle locomotive engineering duties.

Assists in all phases of the safe daily operation of trains.

Will operate track switches, couple cars and work on freight trains in yard operations.

Will move, and align various parts of rail equipment to create or build trains.

Train Crew Members are subject to random alcohol and drug testing as per the Federal Railroad Administration Guidelines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Must have excellent people skills as contact with public is frequent

Will use all necessary hand and power tools to complete jobs.

Able to assist with mechanical work on all rides.

Grounds upkeep inclusive of the Railroad right-of-way. Involving trash pick-up, mowing, weeding, and tree trimming with removal of debris.

Building custodial duties, toilet, sink, floors, shower room, windows, light bulbs, trash removal, batteries etc.

Regular interaction with Zoos Guests.
