Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Qualification And Requirements

1+ years’ experience as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in a hospital setting.

Additional certifications may be required.

Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant Program

Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) licensure in applicable state

American Heart Association BLS, for Heath Care Providers

Minimum of six months occupational therapist assistant experience preferred

Home Health experience a plus

Good organizational and communication skills

Provide therapy services planned, delegated and supervised by the qualified Occupational Therapist in accordance with the patient’s Plan of Treatment.

Instruct patients and family members regarding home programs as well as care and use of adaptive equipment.

Current and unrestricted OTA licensure

Assesses patient 's ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Experience in the clinical area preferred.

Designs the appropriate plan of care, including type and frequency of treatment. Implements the treatment plan using appropriate modalities.

Documents subjective and objective findings of patient progress.

Monitors and modifies the plan of care as needed. Seeks consultation as necessary.

Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.

Must be knowledgeable of occupational therapy procedures. Must be able to use computer for documentation.

Attends and participates in continuing educational programs as may be required by current regulations.

Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (WITH OR WITHOUT THE AID OF MECHANICAL DEVICES):

Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in this state.
