Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Working knowledge of student development theory, appreciative advising model, and other student-centered approaches.

Capacity to work independently and to effectively manage multiple tasks.

Strong knowledge of student support programs and ability to make proper referrals based on comprehensive assessments.

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Ability to build and sustain relationships as well as collaborate with campus and community partners.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate with the exception to the required certification.

Certified as a Student Assistance Counselor (SAC) by the New Jersey Department of Education.

BA or higher degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling. School Certification in one or more of these areas strongly preferred.

Specialized training in substance abuse counseling and experience in working with adolescents in a substance abuse program.

Commensurate with experience level and salaries in districts of similar operating size.

Demonstrate ability to work effectively and efficiently with students, staff, parents, outside agencies, and community groups.

Must have experience working with students at academic risk, first generation college students, students with disabilities, and international students.

Assists SAS students in attaining their educational and career goals in a timely manner.

Ability and skills in addressing the issues and factors impacting today’s college student populations.

Strong interpersonal skills and highly developed oral and written communication skills.

Must have expert electronic and digital skills including enthusiasm to function in a paperless environment.

Strong interpersonal communication skills, and a willingness to work one-on-one and in large group settings with students.
