Overview A Special Education Instructor is a professional who works with students with special needs in order to help them reach their educational goals. Special Education Instructors are responsible for developing individualized education plans (IEPs) for their students, providing instruction and support, and monitoring their progress. Detailed Job Description Special Education Instructors are responsible for providing instruction and support to students with special needs. This includes developing individualized education plans (IEPs) for each student, providing instruction in the areas of academics, social skills, and life skills, and monitoring the progress of each student. Special Education Instructors also collaborate with other professionals, such as psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists, to ensure that each student is receiving the best possible education. Job Skill Requirements Special Education Instructors must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to effectively interact with students, parents, and other professionals. They must also have strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple IEPs and keep track of student progress. Additionally, Special Education Instructors must have a strong understanding of special education laws and regulations. Job Qualifications Special Education Instructors must have a bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field. They must also have a valid teaching license in the state in which they are employed.
