Seasonal Ambassador Animal Keeper Jobs

Assist in the care, well-being, management, behavioral conditioning, and enrichment of a multi-generational, mixed sex herd of African elephants.

Have responsibilities that include: cleaning, animal observations, diet preparation, and medications. Report abnormal conditions to zoological managers.

Practical knowledge and experience with operant conditioning

Demonstrable observation, evaluation, and data collecting skills

Experience providing guest service and guest interaction opportunities throughout your workday.

Experience working with large terrestrial mammals, especially elephants

Have experience with public speaking as it relates to informal environmental education is preferred.

Have volunteer managerial experience (preferred). Does not have to be in a zoological setting.

Maintain excellent written and verbal communication with co-workers, manager, director, and veterinary staff.

Assigned as a primary animal keeper for a group of animal ambassadors based on experience.

Have at least 1 year paid experience working with wild/exotic animals in a zoological setting.

Clear communication skills, both verbal and written

1+ years of paid experience in animal husbandry (preferably in a zoo setting).

Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel spreadsheets, and Google drive are encouraged.

Cooperates and assists with veterinary treatments and instructions.

Participates in membership programs including tours, presentations and lectures.

Performs minor repairs and improvements of exhibits under supervision.

Communicate with visitors as needed for educational (delivers public talks/demos) and behavioral/safety purposes.

Provides care (prepares diets for, feeds and cleans) for animals and maintains habitats, related structures, and surrounding non-public areas.

Communicate questions or concerns regarding medical/health issues of specimens in collection to supervisor. Assist with treatment as directed including administering medication.

Provides behavioral and psychological enrichment for animals.

Disposes of trash and debris in zoo.

Maintains landscaping and grounds for and around habitats.

Experience in interpretation and/or education is encouraged, but not required.

Collaborates with animal care team and education program team to achieve common husbandry and program goals

Communicator – Communicates clearly, both verbal and written. Effective listening skills.

Customer-oriented – Always exercises professional customer service skills. Interacts with many different types of people and situations.

Prior years of paid experience in animal husbandry (particularly in a zoo setting) preferred.

Experience with Microsoft office, Excel spreadsheets, and Google drive are encouraged.
