Research Lab Assistant Jobs in California

Requires 1-3 years experience. Candidates possessing a Master’s degree, 0-2 years experience required.

Remote/Hybrid/Flexible work schedules (Dependent on role).

Free, on-site Counseling Center which provides confidential counseling services to benefits-eligible employees and their family members.

Work under general supervision. Assistance given for unusual problems and normally reviewed for application of sound professional judgement.

May provide interpretation and initial analyses of results.

Limited ability to troubleshoot and modify procedures.

Title and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Scripting/bioinformatics experience (i.e. Python, R, C++, UNIX)

Experience with mammalian tissue culture.

Laboratory experience generating sequencing libraries for the Illumina and / or Pacific Biosciences platforms.

Experience with single-cell/low-input sequencing technologies.

Experience in performing or analyzing flow cytometry experiments

May supervise Clinical Research Associates on data entry, data query and resolution.

Participates in required training and education programs.

Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.

Two (2) years of directly related experience preferred

Performs a variety of routine laboratory tasks and procedures.

Keeps accurate and detailed project records of experiments and results.

Provides document management for research activities.

Assisting with sample kit management

Will complete data entry as required.

Participates in required training and education programs.

Previous coursework and experience in related field is preferred

Handles the process of obtaining the proper signatures for research grants and protocols.

Must have experience with project management

Excellent organizational and managerial skills

Effective multi-tasking skills (e.g., able to manage multiple projects simultaneously)

Experience with psychological/behavioral research design, participant recruitment, data collection, IRB submissions specifically pertaining to caregiving research

MUST have experience communicating with dementia family caregivers and dementia care experts

Experience training and supervising undergraduate and graduate-level lab personnel

Perform routine mouse colony management duties (ear punching/ear tagging/tailing for genotyping, weaning, aging and sexing of pups, and euthanasia, et al)

Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities

Prior experience with mammalian cell culture, especially T cell culture

Prior experience with DNA sequencing technologies, including Sanger and NGS

Depending on number of hours/wk may also gain experience in:

Clear verbal and written communication skills

Coursework or experience in plant biology, molecular biology or related discipline

Planting, watering and general plant care in greenhouse and growth chambers

Seed extraction and processing for tomato, soybean and arabidopsis

General lab maintenance including cleaning of glassware and managing autoclave

Prepares chemical solutions for experimental use.

Handles and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.

Maintains and organizes laboratory supplies. Monitors inventory levels and orders or secures supplies as needed.

Maintains research facility in orderly, operable condition. Maintains security and safety of equipment, samples, specimens and data.

Conducts library research to assist in the planning and design of experiments

Bachelor’s degree in animal science, physiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or closely related field. Two years of related research experience.

Previous hands-on experience with animal handling and husbandry is required.

Previous experience with standard molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.) is preferred.

Excellent oral/written communication skills and organizational skills.
