Overview A Rail Switchman is responsible for operating and maintaining railroad switches, signals, and other equipment to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains. They must be able to read and interpret railroad maps and signals, and be able to communicate effectively with other railroad personnel. Detailed Job Description Rail Switchmen are responsible for operating and maintaining railroad switches, signals, and other equipment to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains. They must be able to read and interpret railroad maps and signals, and be able to communicate effectively with other railroad personnel. They must also be able to inspect and maintain the switches and signals, and be able to troubleshoot and repair any problems that may arise. Rail Switchmen must also be able to operate the switches and signals in accordance with the railroad’s safety regulations. Job Skills Required
