Overview Pathology Assistants are healthcare professionals who work in the field of pathology. They are responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. They may work in a laboratory setting, in a hospital, or in a private practice. Detailed Job Description Pathology Assistants are responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. They may collect and analyze tissue samples, prepare slides for microscopic examination, and assist in the preparation of reports. They may also be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, and ensuring the accuracy of laboratory results. Job Skills Required Pathology Assistants must have excellent communication and organizational skills. They must be able to work independently and as part of a team. They must also be able to work with a variety of laboratory equipment and be familiar with laboratory safety protocols. Job Qualifications Pathology Assistants must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as biology, chemistry, or medical technology. They must also have a valid certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
