Opinion Writer Jobs

College graduate with reporting and writing experience, preferably with an emphasis on political and economic content.

Skilled with developing sources and expertise in a variety of subject areas.

In coordination with the editorial page editor, select topics for editorials, develop arguments, and write persuasive opinion articles.

Participate in editorial board meetings

Create content for digital platforms, including video, podcasts, and appearances on the Journal Editorial Report cable television show.

Flexible to do weekend/evening work as required.

7+ years of proven administrative experience

Knowledge of and interest in current events

Strong teamwork and collaboration skills are a must

Very detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to prioritize jobs, manage time, and work independently

At least 3-5 years of reporting experience, preferably on local issues and/or government.

Strong editing skills and excellent news judgment.

An interest in telling stories using a variety of media, and an enthusiasm for learning new skills and technologies.

Strong interpersonal skills, including empathy (toward readers and staff) and a superior ear for tone.

Report and write a regular column focused on local and regional issues, regularly breaking news and holding officials to account.

Assist with editing and writing editorials.
